For locus of control measured through Loco Inventory, following ranges are interpreted as under. Scores in I(Internal), EO( External Others) and EC (External Chance) vary from 0-40.
- For Internal Locus of Control (I):
- 33 and above: Such people have very high internal score, indicating that they have high self-confidence. However they may be unrealistic sometimes in assessing the difficulties and problems in achieving their goals.
- 29-32: It shows high trust in one’s ability and effort and is likely to lead to effective use of these.
- 22-28: It shows individual is somewhere in between, with moderate trust in himself and his abilities, at the same time not taking the blame of failure totally on one self, but attributing it to contingencies and luck.
- 18-21: It shows that the individual lacks self-trust and needs to take steps to examine his/her strengths by using feedback from others.
- 17 and less: Such people have very little confidence in their efforts and will not utilize their potential.
- For External Locus of Control-Others (EO): This shows reliance on significant others (boss, peers, subordinates) in achieving goals.
- 30 and above: It shows rather dysfunctional dependence on significant others.
- 21-29: It shows a realistic dependence.
- 17-20: It shows an independence orientation.
- 16 and below: It shows an orientation of counter-dependence.
- For External Locus of Control-chance (EC): This shows reliance on luck/chance in achieving goals.
- Lower the score the better. But however a score of 10 and below shows that individual may have problems coping with frustration when unforeseen factors come in the way of achieving goals.
- Also, calculate I divided by Total E (= EO+EC).
- Result of higher than 1 is desirable indicating internal locus of control.
- Score of lower than 1 indicate externality.
- Too high a score of I (I/E > 2) Indicates dysfunctional counter dependence.
