MDI Introduction


Management Development Institute (MDI) was established in 1973 in collaboration with several global institutions like UNDP, UNIDO, World Bank and ILO, with an initial grant received from KfW, West Germany, and with the active support of Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI). MDI is accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and is the first business school in India to get that accreditation. MDI has come up with its second campus at Murshidabad, West. MDI offers the following programmes:

    MDI Eligibility


    Eligibility for PGPM / PGP-HRM / PGP–IM
    • The candidates must have 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in both X and XII.
    • The candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 years duration with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in any discipline from any University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
    • Candidates appearing for the final examination for the Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent examination) and completing all requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree by 30th June, of that year can also apply.
    Eligibility for NMP / PGP–EM
    • The candidates must have 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in both X and XII.
    • The candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 years duration with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in any discipline from any University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
    • The candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification executive work experience as on December 31.
    • All sponsored candidates are required to take the MDI Admission Test
    Eligibility for PGP–PPM
    • All India Services and Class I Service officers from Central and State Governments, sponsored by DoPT, Govt. of India are eligible for the program.
    • For DoPT Sponsored Candidates

    The programme is open to officers of All India Services, Central Services (organized, non-organized, technical and non-technical), faculty members of State ATIs and State Civil Service Officers subject to the following eligibility conditions:


    1. 1.   Age: The officer should not be more than 50 years of age on the date of commencement of the programme (53 years in case of officers belonging to SC and ST).
    2. 2.   Length of Service: Officers of All India Services, Central Services should have put in at least seven years of Group “A” service. The State Civil Service Officers should have put in at least nine years of Group “A” service.
    3. 3.  Earlier Training: The officer should not have undergone a training programme of 12 weeks or more duration in India during a period of five years preceding the date of commencement of the programme. The officer should not have undergone a programme of training abroad of more than two weeks in preceding two years, more than one month in preceding three years or more than six months in the preceding five years.

    Eligibility for PT–PGPM
    • Managers/Executives of Private, Public, and Government Undertakings and State and Central Government Departments are eligible to apply. Entrepreneurs from family businesses are also eligible to apply.
    • A minimum of 3-year Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities/AICTE
    • A minimum of 50% marks in 10th, 12th, and Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent CGPA
    • A minimum of 2 years of post-qualification executive work experience (excluding stipendiary / training period) as on 31 March 2018 for April 2018 Batch and 30th September, 2018 for October 2018 Batch.


    MDI Admission Procedure


    • For PGPM / PGP-HRM / PGP-IM
      1. 1. Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of CAT percentiles, including sectional cut-offs.
      2. 2. The shortlisted candidates are then called for a round of Group Discussion, Written Analysis Test and Personal Interviews.

    • For NMP / PGP–EM
      1. 1. Candidates will be shortlisted based on their CAT, GMAT or MDI Test Scores. Sponsored candidates have to necessarily appear for MDI Admission Test.
      2. 2. Shortlisted candidates will be called for a round of Personal Interview.

      1. 1. Candidates will be shortlisted based on a written test conducted at MDI Campus.
      2. 2. The shortlisted candidates are called for a round of Personal Interview.


      MDI Eligibility and Selection Criteria for PGP

      Stage 1 (short listing):

      The short listing for WAT–GD–PI of candidates is done on the basis of CAT percentiles including sectional cut offs from eligible application pool of MDI, Gurgaon. The minimum CAT percentile requirement is decided based on the number of candidates to be shortlisted.


      Stage 2 (WAT–GD–PI):

      The shortlisted candidates will go through the following process:


      1. Written Analysis Test (WAT): Candidates have to submit a written analysis on the topic provided. The evaluation of WAT will be on content and language.

      2. Group Discussion (GD): Candidates have to discuss the same topic in group discussion. The evaluation of GD will be on group behaviour and content.

      3. Personal Interview: Thereafter candidates have to appear for personal interview. The evaluation will be on communication, analytical ability, general aptitude and business awareness.


      The merit list is prepared by considering CAT scores, Application score and WAT-GD-PI Score.
