SNAP 2021 Exam Analysis | Good Attempts, Level of Difficulty & Cutoff

The first phase of the SNAP 2021 exam just got concluded. Overall, SNAP 2021 aspirants had to face 60 questions in 60 minutes comprising a total of 60 marks.

While the General English section and Analytical & Logical Reasoning were doable, the Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency was a little difficult as compared to last year. The overall structure of the paper was similar to SNAP 2020, including the fact that the General English section did not have any Reading Comprehension questions.

According to CL experts, the section-wise good score for SNAP 2021 would be:

  • General English: 10
  • Analytical & Logical Reasoning: 18-19
  • Quantitative, DI and Data Sufficiency: 11-12

The overall difficulty level of SNAP 2021 was moderate. The cutoff for the general category would be somewhere around 37-38 marks for SIBM Pune and around 35-36 marks for SCMHRD.

SNAP 2021 Section-wise Analysis

General English

The General English section has stuck to the pattern that SNAP followed in 2020. There was no Reading Comprehension which saves a lot of time. There were a number of questions on Grammar including on Parts of Speech, and sentence correction. The section also had 4 fill-in-the-blank questions with one such question requiring to select 2 blanks. Overall the paper was easy and more importantly, all the 15 questions could be read and attempted by a decently well-read/prepared student in less than 10 minutes. The breakup of the section with the types of questions is given below.

A good student is expected to answer all the questions or almost all the questions in about 8 to 10 minutes. Any score above 10 would be considered very good and a student expecting a top Symbiosis institute interview call may require 7 to 8 marks at the least to be in good stead. Though there are no sectional cutoffs in SNAP, it is always useful to have a few marks under the belt even if one were NOT very good at English.

A good score in this section would be 9+ marks

Analytical & Logical Reasoning

This section has always been a favorite of SNAP. This section is completely unlike that of CAT or XAT and one would find the areas such as Letter Series, Number Series, Blood Relations, Input Output and such types in the Analytical reasoning area. Within Logical reasoning, the verbal logic questions such as Statements and Assumptions, Conclusions, Course of Action and such type have made an appearance in the SNAP 2021 paper much similar to the ones that have come in the previous SNAP papers.

Overall there were 16 questions in Analytical reasoning and 9 questions in the Verbal/Logical reasoning type of questions. A break up of the same is given below.

A good student would have attempted almost all the 25 questions save one or two in the Number Series / Missing Number series type of questions.

The time allotted for this section need not have been more than 20 to 25 minutes.

A good score in this section would be around 18+ to get to that 99%ile overall

Quantitative, Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency

While this section is named, Quantitative, Data Interpretation (DI) and Data Sufficiency (DS), there was only one question in DI and no question in DS. There were a total of 19 questions in the Quantitative Ability area with majority from Arithmetic area including Percentages, Profit and Loss, Averages, Time and Work and Time, Speed and Distance.

Surprisingly there were two questions on Geometry. In general, SNAP has refrained from giving Geometry based questions in the past. Or if they did, it was restricted to an easy question. Of the two Geometry questions given in slot 1 of SNAP2021, one of them was an easy sitter while the other required a bit of understanding of Circles and Triangles and Angles in a circle.

The questions in Numbers, Probability and Permutations and Combinations were straightforward. However, not many students would have scored easily in this section.

A surprise question was on Binomial expansion. Though the question was simply asking for (-3) to the power of 9 in the expansion, anyone who does not notice the same would have left the question.

One question on Alloy looked like a question on mixtures whereas it was more of a question which required one to determine the HCF of the two numbers given.

A question on infinite GP (Not Gautam Puri!!!) question was given again in a disguised form of a long question. The answer to this is suspect as there was no correct answer given in the choices.

Overall the section was doable but anyone spending 25 to 30 minutes would have attempted 15 questions in this section. The break-up of the various areas in the section is given below.
