JEE Exam

The JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is an entrance exam for admission into various engineering colleges across the country. From 2019, it will be conducted twice a year, in January and April, by NTA (National Testing Agency). One of the most-challenging entrance exams in the country, the JEE is your gateway to the prestigious IITs, NITs, and Central Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).


JEE is conducted in two parts


  • JEE MAIN
  • JEE ADVANCED

Institutes like the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, and the Indian Institute of Science consider the marks obtained in JEE Advanced as one of the criteria for admission. However, these institutes are not a part of central IIT-JEE Advanced counselling.

  Eligibility

  • Those who have cleared their Class XII exam, or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2017 or 2018; OR those who are appearing in their Class XII exam, or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2019, are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2019.
  • Candidates can appear for JEE Advanced for a maximum of two consecutive years.
  • Those with a Diploma can now also apply for JEE, but only for admission in IITs. These candidates also need to appear for JEE Advanced.

  Exam Pattern

Each paper can be attempted in English, or Hindi, or other languages, based on examination center location. The patterns of the papers also differ.

JEE Advanced


  • The second stage of JEE. Only the top 2.24 lakh rank holders of JEE Main are eligible for JEE Advanced.

The questions asked in the JEE are from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

  • Physics:General Topics, Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Electricity and Magnetism, Optics and Modern Physics
  • Mathematics: Algebra, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, and Vectors
  • Chemistry:Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry
