  Satellite and Internet Multicasting Technology

Satellite technology and the internet medium play a vital role in bridging the distance barrier between teachers and students who are geographically dispersed in many locations.

VSAT technology

VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) allows classes broadcast from a single central studio and to be simultaneously received at multiple school locations. The students are able to see and hear their teacher make a prepared electronic presentation and use a blackboard or whiteboard when required. The teachers and students can interact over a voice channel which gives a very similar feeling to a actual classroom.

VSAT Technology Pilot

Career Launcher used VSAT technology on a pilot basis to do a CBSE Exam Help Line session for students of St. Thomas School and Laxman Public School. 18 sessions of important topics of science and mathematics of 1 hour each were simultaneously multicast to both schools from a central location over a seven day period.

Career Launcher students in remote locations are now experiencing the benefits of participating in live classroom sessions from their homes or from a cybercafe. The best faculty in any topic can make available the recordings of their sessions, which can be downloaded and heard at any time of the day. VOIP allows for two-way video and voice and allows hundreds of individual students participate and learn together from the very best faculty of the subject.

CL faculty and students first experienced VOIP technology at work when the CAT 2002 Analysis was conducted on Nov 24, 2002 simultaneously at all 35 locations of CL. More than 1500 students accessed

Benefits of Technology to Education

VSAT and VOIP are enabling technologies for improving the dissemination of education for various reasons:

  1. They act as a force multiplier on the limited availability of talented faculty. The same teacher can be simultaneously heard and seen a by a class size far greater than that of traditional classroom.
  2. Equality of Opportunity : Every student has equal access to a good teacher.
  3. Enables the use of digital content in presentation, thus aiding the visual learning mode among learners.
  4. Good teachers can continue to teach instead of becoming course designers and authors.
