SYMBIOSIS NATIONAL APTITUDE TEST (SNAP 2011) ANALYSIS
SNAP did not throw many surprises this year. The number of questions and sections remained the same as last year. One thing that did change is the level of difficulty of the questions asked. The number of attempts should have been for 120 marks or more if your average accuracy in Mocks (total correct / total attempts) tops 85%+. It was at your discretion to choose which section to attempt first. However, you should have started with Logical Reasoning, given that all the questions in this section carried 2 marks each. Then, you could have attempted any of the sections depending upon your strengths.
Most important thing about SNAP is that all the Symbiosis institutes will probably take overall cut-off and none of them is reported to consider sectional cut-offs so far. Hence, you should have spent ample time on the area(s) in which you consistently score well. The overall break-up, with detailed sectional analysis, is given below:

IRMA 2011 had four sections like the previous years’ question papers.
IRMA maintained the paper structure with respect to number of sections and questions but the level of difficulty has gone up noticeably. There were quite a few surprises in types of questions.
English Comprehension – This year IRMA stressed on questions based on inferences. The section had 40 questions. There was one RC Passage (Rational thinking in politics) with only 4 questions from Vocabulary (2 Synonyms, 2 Antonyms). There were 10 questions of sentence correction with questions on articles, tenses, superlatives etc. IRMA threw a surprise with a new question type where the students were asked to select probable paraphrases of given sentences. (There were three sentences given which were to be combined into a single sentence. Five different ways of paraphrasing the given sentences were given. Each option was an introductory phrase, not a complete sentence. Students had to infer which sentence fragment is viable.) Like last year there was a cloze test with 10 blanks and very easy options.

Quantitative Ability - This section came as a huge surprise as there were very few questions from quantitative ability. Most of the questions were of Data Interpretation. There were quite a few questions with one option as ‘none of these’. This compelled students to solve the questions entirely rather than rely on approximations. Most of the DI sets were calculation based.

IBSAT 2011 had four sections with a total of 125 questions that were to be attempted in 120 minutes. The sections were – Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Ability and Data Sufficiency & Data Interpretation. The question paper had easy to moderate level of difficulty. Each section had a few questions that were easy and made the question paper quite scoring. There was sectional cut-off for each section. Incorrect answers did not attract any negative marking.
The basic sequence of sections with the number of possible attempts is as follows:

Section I: Verbal Ability
Most of the questions in this section were easy to moderate in terms of difficulty level. There were 25 questions on vocabulary, 10 on English usage, 5 on cloze test and 10 on grammar. A few Para-jumbles and cloze test questions were difficult. Overall, this section was easy and scoring for a person with a moderately good vocabulary and knowledge of the basic rules of grammar.
Section II: Reading Comprehension
This section had three passages with nearly eight questions per passage. The passages were factual and most of the questions were pretty direct. The level of difficulty was easy to moderate. Each passage had one or two difficult questions, which could have been left un-attempted.
Section III: Quantitative Ability
Barring a few difficult questions, most of the questions in this section were of easy to moderate level of difficulty. The section covered almost all the topics – Number System, Arithmetic (Profit, Loss and Discount, Averages, Time and Work, Percentages), Geometry, Mensuration, Probability, P&C, Co-ordinate Geometry, Arithmetic Progression and Algebra.
Section IV: Data Sufficiency and Data Interpretation
This section had questions of easy to moderate level of difficulty. The section consisted of 15 questions on Data Sufficiency, a set of 5 questions (table based) on Logical Reasoning and a set of 5 questions (multiple tables based) on Data Interpretation. Some of the Data Sufficiency questions were based on logical reasoning and could be easily attempted.

TISS Admission Test 2012-14
It was clearly communicated to the candidates that the question paper will consist of two parts.
Part-I of the question paper was common for all applicants and did not pose too many challenges for the candidate. This part was divided into three sections: Analytical & Numerical Ability, Language Ability and Social Awareness. This part was of 50 marks with a time allotment of 45 minutes and there was no negative marking. Further, it was specified that there was no section-wise time limit or cut-offs.
Part II of the TISS exam was program specific, i.e. students applying for different programs took different tests. The question paper was objective/descriptive on the basis of the program(s) that the candidate had applied for. The duration to attempt Part II was one hour. For the popular HRM & LR program, there were 4 sections of the test including Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Reading Comprehension, Economic and Social Concerns. This part contained 75 questions with each carrying equal marks. There was negative marking of one-fourth of the marks allotted to each question. Further, it was specified that there was no section-wise time limit or cut-offs.

IIFT 2012-14 Admission Test Analysis
The IIFT 2012-14 Admission test was very much along the predictable lines. The paper was lengthy and the LRDI section had quite a few tedious questions. The question paper had 120 questions divided into six sections. Each question had four options and the extent of the negative marking was 1/3rd of the marks allotted to the question. The break-up of the sections is given below:

English Usage
Just like previous years there were quite a few questions from Vocabulary. There were questions on Synonyms, Antonyms, Figure of speech, and Idioms. There were no questions on Analogy. The questions on Word-Jumble were easy but time consuming and could have been left.
