GOONJ is turning the discarded and underutilized material of cities into a tool to bring ignored issues to light, to talk about basic needs and to convert it into a resource for rural development. It is not about collecting and distributing material, but it is about turning the age old traditional of giving old material as a charity into regular and dignified giving. Started with 67 clothes, now GOONJ deals with over 2000 tonnes of variety of material every year.
GOONJ has started its nationwide campaign Odha Do Zindagi, raising the ignored disaster of winter, which for millions on the road and in far flung areas, is often torturous due to lack of adequate woolens. Clothing is not only about dignity and looking good but for millions, its a means to survive, especially in the cold.
