IBPS PO Preliminary Exam (October 14, 2017) - Analysis (Slot-I)

Today was the third day of IBPS PO Preliminary Exam 2017. It has been held in four time slots - 2 each in morning and evening. The exam will span over a period of one week, ending on October 15, 2017.

A total of 100 questions had to be answered in 60 minutes. All the other sections, except the English Language section, were available bilingually, that is, in both English and Hindi. Each correct answer will fetch 1 mark while each incorrect answer will reduce the score by 0.25.

The English Language section of IBPS PO (Prelims) 2017 comprised of questions based on Reading Comprehension, Sentence arrangement and Phrase Replacement. Antonyms and Synonyms were included in the RC. The sentence arrangement was a little different from the usual pattern. Each sentence had 4 parts which had to be arranged, whereas the beginning of the sentence was already given. The overall difficulty level of this section was easy to moderate.

The Reasoning Ability section of IBPS PO Preliminary Exam 2017 was dominated by questions based on Analytical Reasoning. The Data Arrangement sets were difficult to solve in the stipulated time. The linear arrangement questions were also not easy to solve. Input-output set was based on numbers (pairs of ascending and descending in alternate steps). Blood Relation and Puzzle based questions required a smart approach. There were no questions on Directions and Syllogism. The overall difficulty level of this section was moderate to difficult. A well prepared candidate could have solved a maximum of 20 questions only.

The Quantitative Aptitude section of IBPS PO Preliminary Exam 2017 saw questions from a variety of topics. Some commonly asked topics were Time and Work, Ages, Simple Interest & Compound Interest, Ratio, Boats and Streams, Average, Mixtures & Allegations and Profit, Loss and Discount. There was 1 set each of Table Based and Pie chart based Data Interpretation which was calculation intensive and it was of moderate difficulty level. The overall difficulty level of this section was easy to moderate.
