IIM Indore IPM: IPM 2016 Analysis



IIM Indore IPM 2016 was conducted by IIM Indore on May 13, 2016 for admission to its five year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM). The exam comprised 100 questions from two broad sections viz. Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability. The time limit of the exam was 120 minutes. Save 2-3 questions in Quantitative Ability, there were 4 options in each question. No option was given for the remaining 2-3 questions.

Each correct attempt would fetch 4 marks and each incorrect attempt would attract a penalty of 1 mark.

IPM 2016 Analysis: Quantitative Ability

The level of difficulty of Quantitative Ability section in IPM 2016 was high. There were 60 questions in this section. As opposed to previous years, there were 2-3 questions wherein the students were not given the options, they had to type the answers in the space provided.

The paper was a mix of various topics but was primarily dominated by Algebra, followed by Number System. There were 7-8 questions on Logical Reasoning and 5-6 questions from AP/GP and Divisibility-Remainders each. There were also 2-3 questions each from Inequalities and Quadratic Equations. One question each based on Coordinate Geometry and Higher Maths (Matrices and Determinants) was asked.

In 80 minutes, an attempt of 31-33 can be considered a good attempt. A 108+ in this section can be considered a good score.


IPM 2016 Analysis: Verbal Ability

The difficulty level of Verbal Ability section was moderate. The 40 questions in this section could easily be completed in around 40 minutes.

One Reading Comprehension passage was related to Urban Rage while the other was related to Love and Tolerance. A majority of the questions based on Reading Comprehension were indirect. Like last year, Fill in the blanks questions were vocabulary based.

An attempt of 30-32 in this section can be considered a good attempt while a score of 105-108 in this section can be considered a good score.

The level of difficulty of the entire paper can be summed up to be Moderate - Difficult. A student who had practiced our material sufficiently would not have found the paper challenging.
