Management Aptitude Test (MAT), February 2017 (Paper Based) - Exam Analysis



The paper based Management Aptitude Test (MAT) was conducted on 5thFebruary 2017. The test was similar to the past year paper based test in terms of its pattern. Though the overall level of difficulty was similar, in terms of the sections, there were a few changes.

Language Comprehension
The section was dominated by questions on Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary. There were five reading comprehension passages. Each passage had four questions each. Three of these passages were descriptive/factual in nature while the other two were inference based. The text of the inference based passages was abstract and hence required careful reading. In Vocabulary, there were three questions each on one word substitution, Fill in the Blanks and Odd Word Out. There were four questions each on Summary and Para Jumbles. In Grammar, there were three questions on Sentence Correction. Overall, the section was of moderate level of difficulty but a bit lengthy; given the number of reading comprehension passages. An attempt of 25-30 questions can be considered a good attempt.

Intelligence and Critical Reasoning
This section was dominated by Analytical Reasoning. There were around 30 questions based on it. Verbal Reasoning comprised questions on Assertion and Reason, Statement Conclusion. A student could have easily attempted over 25 questions in this section.

Mathematical Skills
This was the most difficult section of the paper and questions in this section were calculation intensive and time consuming. Arithmetic dominated the section with around 28 questions from Ratio, Profit & Loss, Averages, Time-Speed-Distance, Time & Work, Partnerships and Percentages. These questions wereModerate to difficult. There were a few questions on Probability and Mensuration too. Overall, an attempt of about 20 to 25 questions can be considered a good attempt for this section.

Indian and Global Environment

This section was dominated by questions from current GK. More than 25 questions were from important events, developments, sports tournaments, advertisements, etc. Many questions from International Affairs, and Business Awareness were also asked. An attempt of around 15-17 questions can be considered a good attempt.

Overall, the paper was of moderate difficulty level and an attempt of 105 to 120 questions can be considered as a good attempt.
