"A B-school offers you much more than academics. The Environment, working in different groups, handling different situation."
Here is an excerpt from a tête-à-tête that Pegasus had with
Ms Deval Karthik, Faculty, MICA.

Q1. What do B-schools look for in an MBA aspirant?
Leadership skills, ability to work in a team, divergent thinking skills, wider perspective of looking at things.

Q2. What skill sets do MBAs acquire during the course?
The courses provide an individual with a plethora of abilities that promotes and imbibes a good business sense. Makes a person more competent. A B-school offers you much more than academics the environment, working in different groups, handling different situation. Soft skills are also taught. Residential programs are more enhancing.

Q3. One offbeat career path you would like to suggest the future managers to take up?
Get the rural experience. That is something not all have explored.

Q4. Women make better managers than men. Comment.
Anybody who's competent and understands how to apply it effectively can be a good manager.

Q5. Is there an overflow of MBAs in the job market?
There is no overflow of MBA s but there is an overflow of B-schools. Good B-schools are scarce. Quality of education needs to be checked.

Q6. While selecting an institute, what should students look for: faculty or placements?
Primarily one should look at the curriculum, how many times has the curriculum been revamped? Does it meet the current industry requirements?
Faculty is just a facilitator… the onus is on the student to take out the best. Placements matter… but largely depend on how one performs. Institutes can get you the best companies, but it depends on how good you are to get the job.

Q7. The ideal age to do the MBA is…
There is no ideal age. A work-ex of two years is good. But more than that, it hampers one's learning.

Q8. One myth about MBA that you would like to break?
B-schools are not placement agencies… they are educational institutes. Every institute tries the best to get the best placement… also when B-schools quote the figures, try and get the real picture.
