What is GATE ?

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE): Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that primarily tests a comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and technology. is an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology.  GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India

The GATE score of a candidate reflects a relative performance level in a particular paper in the exam across several years
The score is used for admissions to post-graduate engineering programmes (M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D) in Indian higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Govt agencies

Admission to post graduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarship/assistantship at engineering colleges/institutes in the country are open to those who qualify through GATE. GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy or Master degree in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications are eligible for Master/Doctoral programmes in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science. To avail the scholarship, the candidate must additionally secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. GATE qualification, however, is not required for candidates with Master degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy who may be seeking scholarship/assistantship for relevant doctoral programmes.

WHAT IS NEW IN GATE 2015 ?

  • Examinations for all the 22 papers will be conducted by an ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT).
  • GATE 2014 examinations will be held during forenoon and afternoon on alternate weekends (Saturday and Sunday) between 1st February 2014 and 2nd March 2014. Examinations for some of the papers in GATE 2014 will be held in multiple sessions. Exact details regarding complete examination schedule will be notified at a later date. 

GATE 2015 Important Dates
Commencement of Online Application: 01st Sept. 2014 (Monday)
Last Date for Submission of Online Application through Website: 01st Oct 2014 (Wednesday)
Online Application (Website closure) including the upload of supporting documents (Photograph, proof of eligibility and category certificate for SC/ST/PwD) at respective zonal GATE Offices
Last Date for Request for Change in the Choice of Examination City via GOAPS login: 21st Nov 2014
Availability of Admit Card on the Online Application Interface for printing: 17th Dec 2014

GATE 2015 Online Examination Date
Forenoon: 09.00 AM to 12.00 Noon, Afternoon: 02.00 PM to 05.00 PM between - 31st January, 1st, 07th, 08th and 14th February 2015 (On Saturdays and Sundays)

Announcement of Results on the Online Application Website: 12th March 2015
Application Fees: The application fee is Rs.1500/- for General/OBC male candidates Rs.750/- for female candidates and Rs.750/- for the SC/ST/PwD category candidates
