SBI SO (Assistant Manager-Systems Scale I) Exam Analysis 2014

The Central Recruitment & Promotion Departmentof State Bank of India conducted its online examination for the recruitment of Specialist Officers for State Bank of India and its associates(various posts and grades as given in the notification of State Bank of India) across the country on April 19, 2014.

The surprise element in the exam was the introduction of sectional time limits for the aptitude and the professional knowledge sections. There were a total of 170 questions in the paper, which had to be attempted in 135 minutes. There were four sections in all - Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, and Professional Knowledge.  All the other sections, except the English Language section, were available bilingually, that is, in both English and Hindi. Each question had 5 options. There was negative marking of one-fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to a question for all the sections.

The pattern of the test was as follows:

The details of the individual sections are given below:

Reasoning
This section primarily saw moderate-tough level of questions. A student should have attempted at least 32 questions. Some of the questions were time consuming and thus required lateral thinking.

English Language
There was one Reading Comprehension passage with 15 questions. The passage was an easy read and could have been attempted easily.  There were 10 questions on Error sporting and 5 questions each on sentence correction and Para jumbles.
An attempt of 25-28 questions in this section can be considered as a good attempt.

Quantitative Aptitude
Overall, this section was of easy to moderate level of difficulty. This section was dominated by questions of Data Interpretation and Number Series.

A well prepared student could have attempted 25 questions easily in this section.

Professional Knowledge
This section comprised questions of moderate level of difficulty based on basic knowledge of the area of specialization viz. in Assistant Manager-Systems (JMGS-I), the questions comprised OSI Model, TCP/IP Model, RDBMS, Relational Algebra, Basics of Object Oriented Programming, Digital Circuits, etc.

An attempt of 38-42 questions couldbe considered a good attempt.
