MHCET 2015 Exam Analysis Day 2 - March 15, 2015 - Morning Slot
Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra conducted its Common Entrance Test for admission to MBA/MMS and PGDBM/PGDM courses offered in various institutes in Maharashtra. The test is being conducted in two time slots (10:00 am-12:30 pm and 2:00 pm-4:30 pm) and will span over a two day window i.e. March 14, 2015 – March 15, 2015.
The computer-based test comprises 200 questions from three broad sections viz. Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, and Logical/Abstract Reasoning.A student needs to attempt them in 150 minutes. There is no demarcation among questions from different sections; one can easily find an RC passage sandwiched between a question on Probability and Visual reasoning. The fact that the test has no negative marking provides some much needed respite to the candidates. Given the number of questions, MH-CET is clearly a test of your speed and accuracy. The exam is largely along the lines of previous CETs.

|Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
Of around 55 questions from this section, a large number of questions have been reported to be from Arithmetic, which mainly included Percentages and Ratios. The questions varied from easy to moderate in terms of difficulty level. There were two sets of five questions each on Data Interpretation. Unlike last year, no questions from Data Sufficiency and Comparison of Quantities were reported this year. There were about 5 questions from Modern Math which were of moderate difficulty level.Apart from this, two sets (five questions each) based on Venn diagram/Set theory were also reported. This set of 55 questions was easy to moderate and an attempt of about 40 questions from this area can be said to be a good attempt.
This section comprised approximately 90 questions, of which about 20 questions were based on Visual Reasoning which were of moderate to difficult level.There were 7-8 questions on Series whichwere easy and could have been attempted in no time. The 4 questions on Venn diagram and the questions on Statement Conclusion, Statement Argument, Statement Assumption and Implicit Statement were moderate in terms of difficulty level. This set also had 3 questions on Analogy, which were quite easy. There were also symbol based sets which had questions on Mathematical Relations and Blood Relations. The remaining questions on Anagram, Coding/Decoding and Odd One Out have been reported to range from easy to moderate in terms of level of difficulty.An attempt of about 60-65 questions from this area can be considered to be a good attempt.
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
This set consisted of 18 questions on Reading Comprehension (2 passages). Both the passages were an easy read and the questions were direct. The majority of these questions were based on Synonyms and Antonyms. There were 2 cloze tests, of 8 blanks each.The difficulty level of Cloze Tests was easy-moderate. There were 8 questions on FIB of which 6 were based on vocabulary. The 8 questions of Error Spotting were easy. An attempt of about 35-40 questions from this area can be considered to be a good attempt.
Questions on Series, Venn Diagrams, Arrangements, Data Interpretationand Verbal Ability were very easy and these were the areas where students could have maximized their attempts.On the other hand,Visual Reasoning could have been a bit troublesome and should have been skipped in case of paucity of time.
Few incorrect questions, across the paper, and numerous grammatical errors were reported by students.One noticeable fact was that there were quite a few questions in the Reasoning section that were picked from the SSC tier 1 paper.
Overall, a genuine attempt of about 140 can be considered good. However, a score less than 130 is unlikely to fetch a call from JBIMS.
