Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET-General) 2015, for admission to various under-graduate programmes in management, was conducted on May 2, 2015 from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

The paper comprised 150 questions which were spread over 4 sections – General English, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness and Analytical & Logical Reasoning. The time limit of the paper was 150 minutes. Each question carried one mark and there was no negative marking in this paper. Each question was followed by 4 options.

The level of difficulty of the entire paper can be summed up to be moderate.

General English

This section had two Reading Comprehension passages of about 200-350 words. One passage was followed by 2 questions while the other one was followed by 4 questions. The ‘Fill in the Blanks’ questions were based on Prepositions and Vocabulary. There were 3-4 questions each based on Analogy and Vocabulary, 2-3 questions each based on Spellings and Odd one out. Unlike last year, we did not see any questions based on Para Jumbles. A score of 30+ can be considered a good score for this section.

Quantitative

The section was dominated by Arithmetic and Number System. Topics like Averages, Percentages, Profit, Loss & Discount, Time, Speed & Distance and Time & Work were covered in Arithmetic. There were 5-6 questions from Number System and a few questions from Probability. Unlike last year, this year we did not see any questions from Permutation & Combination. Apart from this, the section also had 2 sets of Data Interpretation (one bar graph and one caselet) and 3-4 Data Sufficiency questions. The level of difficulty of this section can be said to be easy to moderate. There were 30-32 doable questions in this section and a score of 28-30 can be considered a good score.

General Awareness

Unlike last year, this section was largely dominated by questions from static GK. Most of the questions were covered by our material. Questions were based on various topics, namely, history, geography, personalities, business brands, emblems and capitals of countries, awards and sports. The level of difficulty of this section can be said to be moderate to difficult with 20-22 doable attempts. A score of 18-20 can be considered good in this section.

Analytical & Logical Reasoning

This section had a total of 30 questions. The level of difficulty of this section can be said to be easy. There was one set on Family Tree with 3-4 questions. There were singlet questions based on Arrangements, Series, Coding-Decoding and Directions. In Logical Reasoning, there were 2-3 questions each based on Cause-Effect, Statement-Assumptions, Syllogism and Statement-Conclusions. A score of 23-25 can be considered a good score.

The expected cut-off for Symbiosis Pune campus can be estimated to hover in the range of 100-105 and for Symbiosis Noida campus, the cut-off may vary from 95-100.
