Comparative Analysis

  Total Attempts Accuracy Score
Top 1% 97 77.2% 69.5
Top 2% 93 75.7% 64.7
Top 5% 86 74.4% 58.4
Top 10% 81 72.9% 53.4
Top 20% 76 70.3% 47.6
You 70 60.0% 35.0

The table compares your attempts and accuracy with the top 1%, 2%, 5%, 10% and 20% of all the test takers who took the test. You can compare your attempt levels with those of the toppers. One needs to find one's optimum level of attempts, and we need not needlessly increase the number of attempts when our accuracy level is low. This will happen when we are not spending enough time with each of the question and are rushing through it.

Question Selection( in %)

  Easy Medium Difficult
Top 1% 69.0 64.5 56.9
Top 2% 66.0 61.9 53.4
Top 5% 62.0 57.2 48.1
Top 10% 58.0 53.9 44.5
Top 20% 55.0 50.8 41.1
Your Attempts 47.9 44.0 51.8

The above table shows how you have selected your questions. And how does it compare with the top 1%, 2%, 5%, 10% and 20% who took the same test. Ideally, you should be attempting all the easy questions, then go to the questions of medium level of difficulty and finally, attempt the difficult questions. Hence you should have picked maximum questions from easy and medium levels and lesser numbers from questions of higher level of difficulty. This will improve your speed as well as accuracy.

The highlighted cell indicates where you stand in top 50%.

If your score is not highlighted, it means that you do not feature in the top 50% of test takers in that particular section.

This analysis gives you a true reflection of what your strengths and weaknesses are. As you know, CAT and any other competitive exam is all about comparative grading. Hence you should benchmark your scores against others to know where you stand and what are your chances of clearing a particular exam.

The catch about doing well in CAT and getting all the interview calls from IIMs is that you not only maximize your total score but also do equally well in all the sections. It is here that your time management and your decision making skills are tested.

Remember that it is essential for you to clear all the cutoffs to get any call from an IIM. So doing very well in one of the sections and hence maximizing your scores may not be a good strategy for CAT. You have to do well in all the sections.
