After B.Tech, what am I going to do? A common question that might have strike you or a known kin.

The world becomes your oyster once you have completed your B.Tech. There is a variety of career options post B.Tech.   1. College Placements: It feels wonderful to get a job even before you pass out your college, right! Getting selected in a company visiting your campus seems a good option. If you do not have any intentions of studying further, or at least immediately after B. Tech, you can happily settle with campus placement offers. If your college has a good rapport and initiative for campus placement drive, then gear up for interviews and end up getting an offer letter as soon as you graduate in Engineering.  It is considered to be a safer option where one gets time to decide on whether to stick to the same field or shift to an area of his interest.
  2. Specialize in your own field: Specialization adds to quality. If you pursued engineering out of passion and not just for sake of doing it, then pursuing higher education in the same subject (M.Tech) is the top recommendation. Opt for the field of study that you want to expertise in. You might like to know more about Vocational training can be a success mantra for life. For this, prepare well for the entrance exams to get into a good PG course. On the national level, one of the criteria is to qualify (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) GATE exam which can fetch you admission in IITs, IISC or NITs and many others.
  3. Opt for CAT-MBA preparation: You do not feel that you are that tech guy your parents always wanted you to be? Always felt like you are a manager in a business suit in some MNC? If you are more inclined towards managerial position and corporate world, then MBA is for you, rather than a core engineering technical profile. An IIM tag can be a good career option post B.Tech. It’s a lucrative career option for engineering aspirants too. You can look for following MBA branches as your career- Management, Finance, Consultancy, Banking, International Relations.   4. Appear for Civil Service exams: Admit it, some day or the other everyone thought about preparing for the Civil Services but left the thought because they feel that it’s a tough nut to crack. Being a boss doesn’t mean one can ignore work and life would be easy. Starting a venture and making it a success would be the toughest of all the things one can do. It will have wax and wanes every new day. If you are determined to be an entrepreneur be ready for the challenges and immense learning. This is the road that is less travelled. Not putting damper on your thoughts though. If you believe in yourself then give your entrepreneurial skills a go. After all established businesses have also taken the leap and started from somewhere.
  7. Choose to study abroad: Yet another career option post B.Tech is that you choose for education abroad. A lot of exposure and learning along with the education part is available there.
