For the CAT 2024, students can expect the syllabus to have three sections: VARC, QA, and DILR. These sections will most likely consist of a certain number of questions with a duration of 40 minutes each. Nevertheless, students are advised not to prioritize only the key topics but also to be thorough with the complete CAT 2024 syllabus. Let’s take a look at the key areas to focus on given in the table below:

VARC (Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension)

QA (Quantitative Ability)

DILR (Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning)

> To score well in this section, you must remember that CAT looks for precision and speed instead of prioritizing each reading comprehension passage; try reading it briefly and pointing out the gist.

> To improve your vocabulary and reading pace, practice reading regularly, whether it’s a newspaper, novel, or magazine.

> Ensure that you choose the relevant reading material that will aid you in comprehending the basics of the VA section. Your material should consist of grammar segments of verbal reasoning in VA and careful explanations of every question.

> Aspirants should make a habit of practicing at least 5 RC questions regularly. It will enable you to have more insight into this section and boost your confidence during the actual CAT examination.

> To help you identify your weak areas, a mock test is a must. Practice mock tests daily and assess your ability to respond to questions, accuracy, and weak areas. By taking mocks regularly, you will see a great improvement in your performance by prioritizing weak points.

>If you’re not certain of the answer you picked or find it difficult to understand, it is best to move on to the next question. You can always come back to them after attempting all the other questions. This will help you use your time efficiently.

> Candidates should keep in mind that the QA section mainly consists of mathematics; hence, candidates are required to practice entirely and memorize the basic equations needed.

> To have a better understanding of the section, aspirants must go for the appropriate exam materials that concentrate on the recent years’ exam pattern. This also helps you to be well versed with the pattern of the quantitative ability section and prioritize different topics of the section.

> Aspirants are highly advised to take mock tests regularly to evaluate their pace and accuracy in taking on the DILR Section and attempt at least one topic-wise mock every week.

> Aspirants don’t have to attempt the whole DILR section, rather answer at least 2 out of 4 given sets correctly. This will enable you to concentrate on answering the easier sets first.

> Remember that choosing the most comfortable set from the section does not assure that the questions will be easy as well. It’s alright to leave questions, but you must know where to leave and where to head to the next set.

> This section mainly relies on the candidate’s accuracy and pace in responding to questions. However, it can only be achieved with consistent practice and revision of the syllabus, which are crucial to improving the accuracy and pace.
