XAT 2024: Strategy for the Decision-Making Section

Decision Making or DM is the only section that is found solely in the XAT. The remaining sections follow an exam strategy similar to CAT and other MBA entrance exams, making it easier to prepare them.

As the decision-making section is very different from other sections, a separate preparation strategy is required with a focus on analytical and critical thinking. Students are advised to read the questions carefully, comprehend the passages, and then answer questions that comprise logically explaining and reorganizing arguments, events, and the information illustrated.

Given below is a strategy to crack the XAT Decision-Making section:

Review Previous Year Papers

Previous year papers can help you familiarize yourself with the exam pattern and the types of questions that are asked in XAT. They can also give you a good idea of your preparation and the sections which require further improvement.

> They will help you formulate a strategy for the DM section. Reviewing XAT past year papers from 2008 to 2023 will help you cover about 300 questions of DM and understand the logic for the section.

> For the Verbal and Logical Ability section, candidates can review the papers from 2008 to 2018 while the XAT question papers from 2019 to 2023 can be used as actual papers to practice and review your preparation.

> Past year papers for the Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation section should only be reviewed from the present year till 2016 to understand and prepare for XAT.

Practice with Mock Exams

Mock exams will help you understand where you stand in your XAT preparation and against your peers. You will also be able to analyze your weak and strong points by analyzing the mock papers. Regularly giving mocks will also help you stay motivated by noting the progress. Your aim should be to practice about 5 mock exams for XAT.

Adhere to Critical Thinking

Don’t let your viewpoint influence the selection of the right answer. Keep in mind that in a lot of questions, opinions are illustrated as facts. Don’t get tricked by the play of words that appeal to your sentiments.
