How is CUET Different From Class 12 Boards?

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a standardized exam conducted by the NTA for admission to UG programs to 250+ universities in India. In contrast, Board exams are conducted by education boards to assess students’ knowledge at the end of their secondary education. CUET is specific to university admissions, while Board exams cover a broader range of subjects and is an overall assessment. The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) has a different format and pattern than the Board examinations. The CUET question paper is fully multiple-choice (MCQ) based. In contrast, Board examinations generally follow a standardized format for all subjects, including  multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions and long-answer questions. The Board’s question pattern is a hybrid, which is a mix of different types of questions. CUET and board exams serve different purposes and have distinct examination patterns too. While CUET focuses on assessing aptitude and subject-specific knowledge for admission to 45 central and many other participating universities (250+ in total), Board exams evaluate students’ overall academic performance and grade them accordingly.

> A Board exam is a test/assessment conducted at the end of a course of learning.

> CUET ‘entrance’ test is an assessment carried out by NTA as part of the entry requirements to UG course.

> The CUET syllabus is designed to be a common syllabus based entrance for all the Boards (NCERT class 12 syllabus)

CUET Exam Pattern

> Examination Mode: The exam will be conducted in online mode

> Type of Questions: the questions will be based on multiple choice questions (MCQ)

> Marking Scheme: each correct answer will be awarded 5 marks

> Negative Marking: For each wrong answer, -1 mark will be deducted
