One of the most crucial steps in preparing for entrance exams involves attempting and analyzing the results of mock tests. Analyzing mock tests allows candidates to use the mock test experience to perform better in the future mock tests and the final exam.
We have established a simple step-by-step process which will allow students to easily analyze their mocks and increase their performance in the future:
- Analyzing Questions: Candidates should go through each and every question, and analyze why they got it right or wrong. They should review each question separately, and separate questions on the difficulty level and if they made guesses. This way, they will be able to gauge their strengths and weaknesses, and can work on them, wherever needed.
- Identify trends or patterns: Candidates should look for trends in questions which they may be getting wrong consistently. This generally means that more revision is required in those respective topics so as to minimise errors in the future.
- Observe time taken: Candidates should identify the time taken to solve each question and whether they got it correct. If they are taking longer than usual to solve certain questions, candidates should focus on those respective topics, and find ways to solve those questions in a quicker manner.
- Solve the wrong and unsolved questions: Candidates should solve all the questions they got wrong or were unable to solve. They should keep in mind the method required to solve these respective questions.
- Check solutions by experts: Candidates should review the solutions done by experts. They may be able to find easier and more efficient methods to solve the same question.
- Keep practising: Candidates must use these insights to keep practising and working on their exam preparation. With these insights in mind, they should focus on areas of needed improvement and practise regularly to build confidence.
Everyone should keep in mind that reviewing and analyzing mocks is not a one-time activity. It is an ongoing process which one should continue to work on in order to improve their performance in the exam.
