IPM vs CAT entrance: Current Intake and Competition Levels
IPM and CAT are two different national-level exams that are often compared to one another for their competitiveness for admission to different management programmes. While IPM aptitude test scores are only accepted by the IIMs that offer the 5-year integrated program in management which include IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Ranchi, etc. However, CAT exam scores are accepted by at least 20 IIMs in the nation, alongside many other leading business schools such as Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi, Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Mumbai, Xavier School of Management (XLRI), Jamshedpur, and Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad.
Competition Level: IPM vs CAT
IPM is primarily conducted by IIMs for admission to the five-year integrated program and is considered moderate. The seat intake is also limited compared to CAT which is highly competitive and the number of candidates is also higher than IPM. Hence, the seat intake is also way higher but CAT is still one of the toughest exams in India which is accepted by various other leading business institutes apart from the IIMs.
When it comes to the cut-off, the IPM cut-off score is the minimum score that a candidate must obtain so as to qualify for admission into the IPM programs at IIMs. In 2020, the IPM cut-off for IIM Indore for the General category was the highest (306) when the test was home-monitored because of the pandemic. Also in 2022, the UR cut-off was 306. IIM Rohtak has no WAT.
