Increase in number of MBBS seats through NEET

Great news for MBBS Aspirants!

As per a TOI article, the Center is willing to solve the problem of shortage of doctors in the country by increasing the number of MBBS seats. There are about 50,000 MBBS seats in the country at present. The Union minister of state for health and family welfare Faggan Singh Kulaste while addressing the second healthcare summit, said by 2017, 10,000 MBBS seats will be increased through NEET in the medical colleges across the country.

Out of the 10,000 proposed MBBS seats, the state will get 700, i.e. each new medical college will get 100 MBBS seats. The number of seats will be increased through (NEET) the National Eligibility Entrance Test.

The Center identified 58 hospitals that have the capacity of at least 200-bed, these will be upgraded to medical colleges. Moreover, the construction of approved AIIMS- All India Institute of Medical Sciences will be completed within the deadline to meet the target of adding 10,000 MBBS seats increased through NEET in the country.
