Faculty of Management Studies (FMS)

INTRO
FMS, established in 1954 under the aegis of the Delhi University, is one of the oldest B-schools in India. FMS started of in the premises of the Delhi School of Economics. Later, the department of commerce of the Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), now the Delhi Technological University (DTU), was abolished and the Faculty of Management Studies was established. Currently, FMS offers the following programs:

1. Master of Business Administration - MBA (Full Time)
• Two year, Full time, Postgraduate management program
2. MBA - Executive (Evening Programme)
3. MBA - Executive Health Care Administration (Evening Programme)
• Two year executive programs
4. Doctoral Programme
   • A full time doctoral programmeencouraging original research in various aspects of management.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility for MBA - Full Time

• Candidates must have pursued a Bachelor’s Degree programme after twelve years of formal schooling with at least 50% marks at the graduation level (SC/ST: Passing marks; OBC/PWD/CW: 45% as per university rules) or equivalent CGPA.
• Candidates appearing for the final year bachelor’s degree / equivalent qualification examination or are awaiting results can also apply.

Eligibility for MBA - Executive (Evening)

• Candidates should have pursued at least a three-year Bachelor’s Degree programme after twelve years of formal schooling, having securedminimum 45% aggregate marks or equivalent.
• The candidates should have at least five years of experience as an executive or an administrator in a commercial/government establishment/registered organization after passing the Bachelor’s degree examination. Experience shall be determined as on 1st April of the year of admission. Candidates should be either sponsored or they must produce a “No Objection Certificate” programme from his/her present employer.

Eligibility for MBA - Executive Health Care Administration

• Candidates must have a Bachelor degree having secured minimum 45% aggregate marks or equivalent grades in any discipline such as Medicine (MBBS)/Dentistry BDS)/Biotechnology/Genomics/Genetics /Nursing/Bioengineering/Alternative Systems of Medicine /Paramedical Discipline/Pharmacology/Anthropology/Zoology or an examination recognized as equivalent. The Bachelor’s degree should be of the University of Delhi or any other recognized University/deemed University/Institute.
• The candidate should have at least five years of experience as an executive or an administrator in a commercial/Industrial/government establishment/registered organization after acquiring the Bachelor degree (excluding internship). Experience shall be determined as on the 1st April of the year of admission. Candidate should be either sponsored or they must produce a “No Objection Certificate”from his/her present employer.

Eligibility for Doctoral Programme

• A candidate must have obtained a Master’s/M.Phil. degree from the University of Delhi, or any other recognized University, or a Post-graduate Degree in an allied subject. The candidate must have obtained either a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade in the M.Phil. degree or a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in the Master’s degree.
• Candidates having a MBA/Master’s Degree in an allied subject from University of Delhi or equivalent would be required to write the CAT exam for admission to the Ph.D. programme. Such applicants should have a minimum experience of two years post their MBA/Master’s Degree on the date of writing the admission test.
• Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree of duration of four years or more, viz. B.Tech. or MBBS who have obtained a minimum of 70% and 60% marks or equivalent grades respectively, and also have obtained any national level fellowships, are also eligible to apply for the Ph.D. programme
• Permanent teachers of any recognized University/College other than the University of Delhi, employees of a Research Institute in India and candidates sponsored by their employers will be considered for admission to the Ph.D. programme only if they obtain study leave for a period of two years to fulfill the residency requirements of the Ph.D. programme of the University of Delhi.

 

Admission Procedure

• For MBA Full Time Programme
  There are 2 stages that a candidate goes through before getting selected for MBA Programme.
  1. The first stage is appearing for the CAT Exam conducted by the IIMs.
  2. On clearing the required cutoffs and the composite score, a candidate is called for the second round which comprises ofExtempore Speechand Personal Interview (PI).
  
  


• For MBA Executive (Evening)
  1. The candidates will be shortlisted based on their application.
  2. Shortlisted candidates will be called for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI).The final selection will only be based on the profile of the candidate, quality of work experience, the WAT and PI.
  
  


• For Doctoral Programme
  1. Applications for admissions to the Doctoral Programme are invited through an advertisement. Candidates who are not exempted from admission test are required to take the CAT exam.
  2. Shortlisted candidates are required to submit their registration forms to the Board of Research Studies (Management) at FMS.
  3. The shortlisted candidates are required to appear for a round of personal interview.

In the year 1991, FMS increased its seats for the MBA Program from 60 to 90. Later the seats were subsequently increased. Currently, for the 2015-17 batch, there are about 200 seats in the MBA program.

Gender Diversity

Work Experience Based Diversity

The placement process is conducted in two stages. The first is the laterals process where the firms interview the students with more than 18 months of work experience and offer them mid-level managerial positions. In the second stage the firms are grouped into clusters/cohorts and the students with no or less work experience participate in the process.
In the final placements of the 2013-15 batch, the average compensation for the batch of 217 students was Rs. 17.04 LPA. The average compensation for the top 50% offers made was Rs. 20.46 LPA. There had been a 58% increase in the number of PPOs offered as compared to the previous year.

The summer placement for the batch of 2014-2016 was successfully completed. The batch of around 219 participating studentswas placed within 3.5 days. Over 87 companies participated in the summer placements this year with around 36 first-time recruiters. Companies of different sectors hired candidates for a wide range of functions.
