IIFT 2021 (2021-23) Exam Analysis & Expected Cut-off

IIFT 2021 (2021-23) is expected to be conducted on December 6, 2020. The exact date of the exam will be released with the IIFT 2021 Notification. The exam tends to draw an estimated 50,000 test-takers each year for admission into IIFT’s flagship 2-year MBA program.

IIFT 2020 underwent a major shift in comparison to the previous years’ papers. IIFT 2020 shifted to a basic 4-section paper, with the marking scheme changing as well. IIFT 2021 is unlikely to make another dramatic change, due to which we can be reasonably sure about the exam pattern:

Sections Number of Questions Total Marks Marking Scheme
Reading Comprehension & Verbal Ability 35 105 +3/-1
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning 30 90 +3/-1
Quantitative Analysis 25 75 +3/-1
General Awareness 20 30 +1.5/-0.5
Total 110 300

The paper had 4 separate sections: General Awareness, Reading Comprehension & Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude. There was differential marking across sections, but no sectional time limit. To be shortlisted, an aspirant needed to clear both overall and sectional cut-offs. One-third of the allotted mark was deducted in case of a wrong answer.

IIFT Analysis (2020 - 2022)

The IIFT 2020 paper was quite easy, in comparison to the previous IIFT exams. The easiest section was Reading Comprehension & Verbal Ability. Due to the easy nature of the paper and the change in the marking scheme, the cut-off rose dramatically to 138 (for General category).

Section Name No. of Questions Marks/Q Max marks Cut-offs (for General)

IIFT Analysis 2018 (2018 - 2020)

IIFT threw a major surprise in IIFT 2018 with the former 4 sections getting segregated into 6 separate sections. Earlier, an aspirant could choose to perform either in DI or LR. Similarly, he could choose to focus only on EU or RC. Since IIFT 2018, students don’t have this luxury. Performing across all 6 sections is required to clear sectional cut-offs.

General Awareness (GA) was on the tougher side. English Usage (EU) was the toughest in last 5 years and command over English usage and Grammar was essential to score well. Reading Comprehension (RC), Quantitative Ability (QA), Data Interpretation (DI) and Logical Reasoning (LR) were on similar lines like IIFT 2017.

Section Name No. of Questions Marks/Q Max marks Cut-offs
Section 1 part 1 Reading Comprehension 16 1 16 2.69
