IIFT 2018 (2019-2021) Exam Analysis & Expected Cut-off

IIFT entrance exam will be conducted on 2nd December 2018. With the exam drawing near, hope you have taken your preparation up a notch. The detailed notification is expected to be released by first week of August. IIFT draws roughly 50,000 test takers each year for admission into its flagship two year MBA program.

Coming to the analysis of the exam pattern, IIFT threw a curve ball last year by segregating the former 4 sections into 6 separate sections: General awareness, English Usage, Reading Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, Data interpretation and Quantitative Aptitude.

There is differential marking across sections with no sectional time limit. It also has a variable number of total questions ranging from 113 to 125. To be shortlisted for further consideration, an aspirant needs to clear both overall and sectionals cut-offs. One-third of the allotted mark is cut in case of a wrong answer.

IIFT 2017 (2019 - 2021)

IIFT threw a major surprise last year with the former 4 sections getting segregated into 6 separate sections. Earlier, an aspirant could choose to perform either in DI or LR. Similarly, he could choose to focus only on EU or RC. Last year, students didn't have this luxury. Performing across all 6 sections was required to clear sectional cut-offs.

General Awareness (GA) was on the tougher side. English Usage (EU) was the toughest in last 5 years and command over English usage and Grammar was essential to score well. Reading Comprehension (RC), Quantitative Ability (QA), Data Interpretation (DI) and Logical Reasoning (LR) were on similar lines like IIFT 2016.

Cracking the IIFT exam depends on how well time is managed and allocated to different sections in the total 2 hours. Speed can be a game-changer for this exam.

IIFT 2018 will be conducted on the 3rd of December this year. The student's last year due to familiarity with the paper pattern missed out on the instruction page and realiseed post the exam that the paper comprised six sections and not 4. Hence, an aspirant was required to clear the cut off all six sections.

The difficulty level was significantly higher than compared to the difficulty level of the exam two years prior. The cut off fell by 13 marks compared to IIFT 2016 due to the increase in the difficulty level.

Since the paper pattern saw a change last year, it is expected that IIFT wouldn't spring huge surprises on the candidates, and the difficulty level and pattern will be like last year.

CL wishes luck to all IIFT 2019-2021 aspirants!
