Introduction to Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT)
Beginning from the year 2010, the preliminary section of the civil services examination shall witness the following changes:
- Removal of the optional subject
- Introduction of Civil Services Aptitude Test
- Provision of equal weight to both papers
- Paper I General Awareness, and
- Paper II Aptitude test - CSAT
These changes are expected to offer a level playing field to all the candidates, as the previous process favored students of popular subjects.
Purpose of CSAT
The purpose of the CSAT shall be to measure the following:
- Comprehension skills
- Interpersonal skills, including communication skills
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
- Decision making and problem solving skills
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy (Class X level)
- Data interpretation (Class X level)
- English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level)
