St. Stephen's College is one of the most prestigious institutions in India - and arguably the most celebrated in Delhi University's 100-year history. Founded on 1 February 1881 by the Cambridge Mission, it became one of DU's three original constituent colleges in 1922. Over 140 years later, St. Stephen's continues to attract the country's most academically ambitious students, producing alumni who have shaped Indian politics, journalism, literature, science, and global business.
St. Stephen's College UG admission 2026 is based entirely on CUET UG scores through the DU CSAS portal. However, the college has a unique admission dimension: as a recognised Christian minority institution under Article 30(1), 50% of seats are reserved for Christian minority candidates who must complete a college-conducted interview (weighted at 15%). For all other candidates (non-minority), admission is based 100% on CUET scores. This makes St. Stephen's admission process distinct from that of every other DU college.
Ranked #5 overall by NIRF 2025 (NAAC A++), ranked #2 in Arts by India Today 2024, the college spans a 25-acre heritage campus on DU North Campus. Its alumni network, Stephanians, is described as the most powerful informal alliance in India, producing three Heads of State, multiple Union Ministers, Nobel Prize-adjacent academics, Supreme Court judges, IAS toppers, Olympians, and leading journalists.

Download PDFSt. Stephen's College was founded by the Cambridge Brotherhood on 1 February 1881 in response to the closure of Government College, Delhi. The college was named after Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr. It was initially affiliated with Calcutta University, then Punjab University, and became one of the three founding constituent colleges of the University of Delhi in 1922, alongside Hindu College and Ramjas College.
The college campus spreads across 25 acres at the heart of DU's North Campus, with iconic red-brick Gothic-style architecture that has been declared a heritage structure. The campus includes a cricket ground, squash courts, a 1500-seat auditorium, a well-stocked library, and St. Stephen's Church - one of the oldest churches in Delhi, built in 1862.
The Stephanians alumni network is described by observers as 'the most powerful informal alliance of people in the country.' Notable alumni include External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, journalist Barkha Dutt, author Amitav Ghosh, Chief Justice of India (former) Y.K. Sabharwal, industrialist Rahul Bajaj, and former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan (briefly enrolled). The college has produced alumni who have served as Heads of State of three countries.
St. Stephen's offers UG programmes across Arts, Commerce, and Science streams. All admissions are based on CUET UG scores through the DU CSAS portal. For Christian minority candidates, there is an additional college-conducted interview (15% weightage) for shortlisted applicants. A minimum of 50% in Class 12 is required to register on DU CSAS.

St. Stephen's College has a unique two-track admission process unlike any other DU college. It is a recognised Christian minority institution under Article 30(1) of the Constitution of India, which gives it the right to reserve 50% of seats for Christian minority students. This means the admission process differs significantly depending on your category.
If you are not a Christian minority candidate, your St. Stephen's admission is entirely based on your CUET UG score. Register on the DU CSAS portal, list St. Stephen's as a preference, and participate in the standard seat allocation rounds. No separate interview or college registration is required.
If you are a Christian minority candidate and wish to apply for a minority-reserved seat, you must complete two registrations: (1) the standard DU CSAS portal registration at ugadmission.uod.ac.in after CUET results, and (2) a separate College Registration Form at ugadm.ststephens.edu. Shortlisted minority candidates are called for a college-conducted interview, which carries 15% weightage. Your final merit score is: 85% CUET + 15% Interview.
Visit cuet.nta.nic.in and complete registration with the correct subject combination for your target course at St. Stephen's. (The registration window for 2026 has closed.)
CUET UG 2026 is scheduled from May 11-31, 2026. For popular Arts courses at Stephen's, aim for 920+ (General category). For Science courses, target 580-840+, depending on the programme.
Results are expected in the last week of June 2026. Download your CUET scorecard from the NTA portal.
Visit ugadmission.uod.ac.in. Register and list St. Stephen's as a preference. The portal opens in June 2026.
CHRISTIAN MINORITY CANDIDATES ONLY: Additionally, register at ugadm.ststephens.edu and complete the college's separate application form within the specified deadline.
If shortlisted as a minority candidate, attend the college-conducted interview at St. Stephen's. This carries 15% weightage in your final merit score.
DU releases 3-4 cutoff rounds via CSAS. If allotted St. Stephen's, accept the offer within the stipulated time and pay the admission fee.
Complete document verification at St. Stephen's. Pay the admission fee to confirm your seat.
