The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur popularly known as IIT Kharagpur or IIT KGP, is a top-notch engineering institution established by the Government of India. Being established in the year 1951, it is the first of the IITs of the country. The students and alumni of IIT Kharagpur are informally referred to as KGPians. Among all IITs, IIT Kharagpur has the largest campus (a self contained township of over 15,000 inhabitants), the most departments, and the highest student enrollment. Getting into IIT Kharagpur- Admissions

For all B.Tech programs- JEE Advanced

All the IIT aspirants have to sit for JEE Main and afterwards, JEE Advanced. Only the top 150,000 scores in JEE Main will become eligible to sit for JEE advanced.


IIT Kharagpur Eligibility

JEE eligibility criteria apply to all the IITs for admissions to their undergraduate programs. Based upon their score and rank in the JEE Advanced exam, shortlisted candidates are called for counseling.


Eligibility criteria for JEE is as follows:

  •   Students who are born on or after October 1, 1992 are eligible to apply. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) have been given a relaxation of 5 years.
  •   Aspiring candidates should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2016 or 2017.
  •   The candidates must have secured at least 75% marks or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th Class Examination conducted by respective boards. For SC/ST students, there shall be a relaxation of 5% in this criterion.
  •   Aadhar card is mandatory for all the Indian citizens who are taking JEE.

IIT Kharagpur admission procedure

B.Tech admission at IIT Kharagpur is done through online counseling. Counseling organized by the college is held for those candidates who are shortlisted through the screening process on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate in JEE. After the allotment of seat candidates need to submit the requisite fee and required documents for verification.
