• The interview carries the most weight: in the final scoring formula, the Personal Interview contributes 50 out of 100 points. Your IPMAT score is worth only 30. For IIM Shillong IPM admission, how you perform in the room matters more than how you score in the exam.
• Mathematics is mandatory: IIM Shillong requires you to have studied Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Classes 11 and 12. Arts students who did not take Maths cannot apply, even if they clear IPMAT.

How Do You Apply? The Admission Process, Step by Step

IIM Shillong follows a structured, six-stage process for IPM admission. Unlike IIM Bodh Gaya or IIM Jammu, there is a mandatory interview round here, and it carries significant weight.

Step 1: Apply to IIM Shillong Online

Candidates apply directly through the IIM Shillong IPM admission portal, separate from the IPMAT Indore registration. You need to have appeared for IPMAT Indore before applying. Fill in personal and academic details, upload documents, and pay the application fee.

Step 2: IIM Shillong Shortlisting Based on IPMAT Score

IIM Shillong creates an eligible candidate pool from those who have positive raw scores and meet minimum per-section thresholds in IPMAT. The Admissions Committee sets these section-wise cutoffs each year, and they vary by category. Candidates from each category are then ranked by IPMAT score to determine who gets a PI call.

Step 3: PI Call Letter and Interview Form

Shortlisted candidates receive a Personal Interview call letter. They must also fill in an interview form and upload it to the admission portal within the stipulated time. If you miss this step, you lose your interview slot, and no communication will be sent to you.

Step 4: Personal Interview

Shortlisted candidates attend the PI at specified venues. The Admissions Committee expects consistent and satisfactory performance across PI parameters. Candidates who fall below the minimum standard on any parameter are not considered for final selection.

Step 5: Computing the Final Score

Only candidates who cleared both the IPMAT shortlisting and the PI round are evaluated on the Overall Score (OS). The OS is calculated on a 100-point scale: Class 10 marks (10 points) + Class 12 marks (10 points) + IPMAT score (30 points) + Personal Interview (50 points). Note that the PI alone accounts for half your total score.

Step 6: Category-Wise Merit List and Offers

A category-wise merit list is prepared based on the Overall Score. Admission offers are sent in order of rank, subject to seat availability. A waitlist is also maintained.

Who Can Apply? IIM Shillong IPM Eligibility Criteria

Pay close attention here. IIM Shillong's eligibility bar is noticeably stricter than most other IIM IPM programs. Two things matter most: your marks and whether you studied Maths.

Age Limit (2027-32 batch)

You must have been born on or after August 1, 2007. For SC, ST, and DA (Differently Abled) candidates, the relaxation is 5 years, so August 1, 2002.

Minimum Marks

Mathematics Requirement

You must have studied Mathematics or Applied Mathematics as a subject in Class 11 and Class 12. Students from Arts or Commerce streams who did not take Maths at all are not eligible to apply, even if their overall percentage is above 70.

Class 12 Appearing Candidates

Students appearing in their Class 12 board exams in 2027 can apply provisionally. If selected, your admission will be provisional until you submit your final Class 12 mark sheet showing the minimum required percentage, along with a school-leaving or migration certificate.

Candidates from international school boards like IGCSE and IB are also eligible, subject to the institute's equivalence rules.

IIM Shillong IPM Admission - Documents Required

Keep scanned copies of the following documents ready before the IIM Shillong application portal opens.

• Class 10 mark sheet and passing certificate
• Class 12 mark sheet and passing certificate (or proof of appearing, if results are pending)
• A percentage equivalence certificate, if your mark sheet shows grades or CGPA instead of percentages
• Category certificate (EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, DA), if applicable
• IPMAT 2027 hall ticket and score (for domestic candidates)

IIM Shillong IPM Fees

The fee structure below is taken directly from iimshillong.ac.in/ipm/finances and applies to the BBA stage (Years 1 to 3). This is confirmed official data.

In addition to the above, you pay an Alumni Fee of Rs 10,000 and a refundable Caution Deposit of Rs 20,000 at the time of admission. Mess bills are charged separately at actuals. Travel and stay costs for the international immersion program are also charged separately at actuals.

One important note: if you exit the program before completing the BBA degree, GST will be applicable on the fees paid up to that point, and this must be paid before exiting. The 2027-32 fee structure has not been announced yet and may be revised; always check the latest figures on iimshillong.ac.in/ipm/finances.

The IPMAT Exam Pattern

IIM Shillong accepts IPMAT scores from the exam conducted by IIM Indore. This is the same exam used by IIM Ranchi and IIM Amritsar. It is a 120-minute Computer-Based Test with 90 questions for 360 marks, split into three sections with a strict 40-minute time limit per section.

Marking: +4 for each correct answer, -1 for each wrong answer. The Short Answer section has no negative marking, so always attempt every SA question, even if you are not fully confident. You cannot move between sections once a section's 40 minutes are up.

IIM Shillong IPM Admission - Final Selection Formula

This is the part that makes IIM Shillong IPM different from every other program in this series. The Personal Interview carries more weight than the IPMAT score itself.

This means that two students who scored the same on IPMAT can end up in very different positions on the merit list based entirely on their PI performance. If you are preparing for IIM Shillong IPM, PI preparation deserves at least as much effort, if not more, as IPMAT preparation.

Course Curriculum - What Will You Study?

The first three years of the IIM Shillong IPM are built around five learning domains, woven through a semester-based structure. The program is designed around two core ideas:

• Developing Responsible Managers
• Preparing graduates for Sustainable Development.

These are not just taglines at IIM Shillong. Given that Shillong is in the heart of Northeast India and the institute has a strong sustainability research focus, the curriculum reflects these values.

In the early semesters, you work across disciplines: mathematics, statistics, economics, social sciences, psychology, humanities, and business fundamentals. As you progress, the focus gradually shifts toward core management subjects.

Per NEP 2020, you have exit options at the end of Year 3 with a BBA degree if you choose not to continue into the MBA phase. Years 4 and 5 follow the regular IIM Shillong MBA (PGP) curriculum, alongside the regular MBA batch.

The curriculum includes an international immersion experience that gives you global exposure during the BBA phase. Costs for this are charged separately at actuals and are not part of the base fee.

IIM Shillong launched its IPM program in 2025. The first IPM batch (2025-30) will be eligible for campus placements in 2029-30, meaning dedicated IPM-specific placement data is not available yet. However, IPM students in their MBA years (Years 4 and 5) join the IIM Shillong PGP (MBA) placement process.

The 2025 MBA batch placements give a useful benchmark for the quality of placements IPM graduates can expect. Key highlights: highest CTC of Rs 71.5 LPA, average CTC of Rs 26.44 LPA, 382 students placed, 141 companies participated, including Accenture Strategy, Bain and Company, Deloitte USI, EY India, Goldman Sachs, HSBC Bank, ICICI Bank, JPMorgan Chase, and Microsoft.
