IIM Shillong IPM admission 2027: Situated on the hills of Meghalaya, IIM Shillong is the only IIM in Northeast India, and it carries a nickname that fits perfectly: Campus in the Clouds. In 2025, IIM Shillong became the 7th IIM to offer the five-year IPM (Integrated Program in Management) degree, giving school students a direct path to an MBA through IIM Shillong IPM admission.
But before you get excited, there is something important you need to know. “IIM Shillong IPM has the highest academic threshold among the IIM IPM programs in this series”. You need at least 70 percent in both Class 10 and Class 12 to apply. Most other IIM IPM programs ask for 60 percent. Here, we will explain why that number matters and what else sets the IIM Shillong IPM program apart.
IIM Shillong also stands out for its triple international accreditation, holding AACSB, EQUIS, and BGA recognition simultaneously. Very few business schools in India hold all three. IIM Shillong was ranked 38th in the NIRF Management category for 2025.
Follow this guide, which covers everything you need for IIM Shillong IPM Admission 2027 - Eligibility, pattern, admission process, placement, curriculum overview, etc.

Before you decide if this program is the right fit for you, here is what sets it apart from every other IIM IPM option.
IIM Shillong follows a structured, six-stage process for IPM admission. Unlike IIM Bodh Gaya or IIM Jammu, there is a mandatory interview round here, and it carries significant weight.
Candidates apply directly through the IIM Shillong IPM admission portal, separate from the IPMAT Indore registration. You need to have appeared for IPMAT Indore before applying. Fill in personal and academic details, upload documents, and pay the application fee.
IIM Shillong creates an eligible candidate pool from those who have positive raw scores and meet minimum per-section thresholds in IPMAT. The Admissions Committee sets these section-wise cutoffs each year, and they vary by category. Candidates from each category are then ranked by IPMAT score to determine who gets a PI call.
Shortlisted candidates receive a Personal Interview call letter. They must also fill in an interview form and upload it to the admission portal within the stipulated time. If you miss this step, you lose your interview slot, and no communication will be sent to you.
Shortlisted candidates attend the PI at specified venues. The Admissions Committee expects consistent and satisfactory performance across PI parameters. Candidates who fall below the minimum standard on any parameter are not considered for final selection.
Only candidates who cleared both the IPMAT shortlisting and the PI round are evaluated on the Overall Score (OS). The OS is calculated on a 100-point scale: Class 10 marks (10 points) + Class 12 marks (10 points) + IPMAT score (30 points) + Personal Interview (50 points). Note that the PI alone accounts for half your total score.
A category-wise merit list is prepared based on the Overall Score. Admission offers are sent in order of rank, subject to seat availability. A waitlist is also maintained.

You must have been born on or after August 1, 2007. For SC, ST, and DA (Differently Abled) candidates, the relaxation is 5 years, so August 1, 2002.

IIM Shillong accepts IPMAT scores from the exam conducted by IIM Indore. This is the same exam used by IIM Ranchi and IIM Amritsar. It is a 120-minute Computer-Based Test with 90 questions for 360 marks, split into three sections with a strict 40-minute time limit per section.

This is the part that makes IIM Shillong IPM different from every other program in this series. The Personal Interview carries more weight than the IPMAT score itself.

This means that two students who scored the same on IPMAT can end up in very different positions on the merit list based entirely on their PI performance. If you are preparing for IIM Shillong IPM, PI preparation deserves at least as much effort, if not more, as IPMAT preparation.
The first three years of the IIM Shillong IPM are built around five learning domains, woven through a semester-based structure. The program is designed around two core ideas:
These are not just taglines at IIM Shillong. Given that Shillong is in the heart of Northeast India and the institute has a strong sustainability research focus, the curriculum reflects these values.
In the early semesters, you work across disciplines: mathematics, statistics, economics, social sciences, psychology, humanities, and business fundamentals. As you progress, the focus gradually shifts toward core management subjects.
Per NEP 2020, you have exit options at the end of Year 3 with a BBA degree if you choose not to continue into the MBA phase. Years 4 and 5 follow the regular IIM Shillong MBA (PGP) curriculum, alongside the regular MBA batch.
The curriculum includes an international immersion experience that gives you global exposure during the BBA phase. Costs for this are charged separately at actuals and are not part of the base fee.
IIM Shillong launched its IPM program in 2025. The first IPM batch (2025-30) will be eligible for campus placements in 2029-30, meaning dedicated IPM-specific placement data is not available yet. However, IPM students in their MBA years (Years 4 and 5) join the IIM Shillong PGP (MBA) placement process.
The 2025 MBA batch placements give a useful benchmark for the quality of placements IPM graduates can expect. Key highlights: highest CTC of Rs 71.5 LPA, average CTC of Rs 26.44 LPA, 382 students placed, 141 companies participated, including Accenture Strategy, Bain and Company, Deloitte USI, EY India, Goldman Sachs, HSBC Bank, ICICI Bank, JPMorgan Chase, and Microsoft. Consulting and BFSI were the top recruiting sectors.
These placement figures are for the MBA (PGP) batch, not IPM-specific. As IPM students complete Years 4 and 5 and become part of the placement process, their outcomes will be published separately. Always refer to iimshillong.ac.in/recruiter/pgp for the most recent official placement data.
Since IIM Shillong uses the same IPMAT Indore score, one exam gives you a shot at multiple colleges. Here is a comparison to help you decide.

IIM Shillong stands out for its international accreditations, scenic campus, and sustainability focus. But it has the strictest academic eligibility in this group, and the interview carries more weight than at any comparable program. If your marks are comfortably above 70 percent, Maths is your strength, and you are confident in interviews, IIM Shillong deserves serious consideration.
This guide covers everything you need to know about IIM Shillong IPM Admission 2027, including eligibility, admission process, IPMAT exam pattern, fees, curriculum, placements, and expected dates.
Learn about the institute's unique 70% eligibility requirement, mandatory Mathematics criterion, interview-centric selection process, and five-year integrated pathway to an MBA.
It also explains the fee structure, required documents, curriculum, placement prospects, and comparison with other IPMAT-accepting IIMs such as IIM Ranchi and IIM Amritsar. Whether you're evaluating your eligibility or planning your preparation, this comprehensive guide provides all the essential information in one place.
It is 70%, not 60%. The official IIM Shillong admission process page specifies a minimum of 70% in both Class 10 and Class 12 for General, EWS, and OBC-NCL candidates. For SC, ST, and DA candidates, the minimum is 65%. Several third-party websites incorrectly state 60%, which is the IIM Ranchi/Indore figure. Always verify on the official site.
Yes. Mathematics or Applied Mathematics as a subject in Class 11 and Class 12 is mandatory for the IIM Shillong IPM. This is stated clearly on the official admission page. Students who did not study Maths at all in senior secondary school are not eligible.
The official dates have not been announced. Based on the 2026 cycle, the application window opened on May 1, 2026 and closed on May 30, 2026. For 2027, expect a similar window in May 2027. Keep checking iimshillong.ac.in/ipm from early 2027 for the official notification.
The first three years cost ₹11,43,000 in total (₹3,81,000 per year), confirmed on the official IIM Shillong finances page. This covers tuition, hostel, IT infrastructure, student welfare, and health insurance. Years 4 and 5 are charged at the prevailing PGP fee, plus an Alumni fee of ₹10,000 and a refundable caution deposit of ₹20,000 at admission. Mess and immersion costs are extra.
Yes. Unlike IIM Jammu, IIM Bodh Gaya, or IIM Ranchi, IIM Shillong requires a Personal Interview and gives it the highest weightage: 50 out of 100 points in the final score. Candidates who do not meet the minimum standard in the PI round are not considered for admission, regardless of their IPMAT score.
Only if you studied Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Classes 11 and 12. Arts students who did not include Maths in their subject combination are not eligible to apply.
If you complete all five years, you receive a full MBA degree from IIM Shillong. Under NEP 2020, you also have the option to exit after Year 3 with a BBA degree. However, if you exit before completing the BBA, GST applies to all fees paid up to that point, which you must settle before leaving.
Yes. The same IPMAT Indore score is accepted by IIM Shillong, IIM Ranchi, IIM Amritsar, and several other colleges. But each college requires a separate application and application fee. For IIM Shillong, you apply on the IIM Shillong admission portal, not through the IPMAT Indore portal.
Yes. Overseas candidates can apply using a valid SAT score of at least 1300 out of 1600, taken within the specified window. For the 2026-31 cycle, the SAT had to be taken after June 1, 2025. A similar window is expected for 2027. The PI for international candidates is held online.
IIM Shillong was ranked 38th in the NIRF Management category in 2025. It is the only management institute from Meghalaya to appear in the NIRF national rankings, and it holds AACSB, EQUIS, and BGA (AMBA) accreditation simultaneously, making it one of the few Indian B-schools with triple international recognition.
