Machine Learning Workshop

Towards Industry 4.0 Readiness

Faculty: Sujit Bhattacharyya Language: English

Workshop @ AICTE Head Office, New Delhi

Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science (DS), and Machine Learning (ML) are the pillars of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, or what is commonly known as Industry 4.0. AI is a branch of Computer Science that deals with the ability of a machine to closely imitate intelligent human behavior. ML is an application of AI that is based on the idea that when machines are provided new data, they can learn, grow, and develop on their own without explicit human intervention/programming. DS, on the other hand, is an umbrella term that signifies techniques used to extract useful information and insights from data.

Today, the importance of AI-ML is being felt in almost every domain. Therein arises the need for professionals to be AI-ML proficient.

Towards attaining this objective, AICTE and CL Educate jointly organized a two-day workshop (on February 7 & 8, 2019) on Machine Learning at the AICTE Head Office in New Delhi for the faculty members of AICTE-affiliated colleges. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr M P Poonia (Vice-Chairman, AICTE), Dr Elangovan Kariappan (Assistant Innovation Director, AICTE), and Mr Satya Narayanan R (Founder, CL Educate).

A team from CL Educate, led by Mr Sujit Bhattacharyya (Chief Innovation Officer, CL Educate) conducted the sessions.

In total, 38 participants, including faculty members (Assistant Professors, Associate Professors) and representative of other managements, etc., from across the country attended the workshop. They were selected by the AICTE out of 300+ applicants, on the basis of a number of parameters. The participants, from various branches of Engineering and Science (including Computer Science), were from Assam, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi among others.

The foremost misconception that was addressed by the workshop was the one that ML is only for those from a Computer Science background. Mr Bhattacharyya and his team had planned the workshop in such a way so as to ensure there was a judicious mix of theoretical knowledge and hands-on training. Online practical sessions were also held. Based on individual capability, the team from CL Educate had arranged separate workspaces on their server for every participant.

The response was overwhelming, with the participants requesting the second day's session to be extended. They have also requested to arrange a similar workshop, but for 5 days.

The workshop drew to a close with LIVE hands-on training on Amazon Alexa voice bot. A demonstration was given by a participant in front of Prof. Anil D Sahasrabudhe (Chairman, AICTE).

Prof. Sahasrabudhe, Dr Poonia, Dr Kariappan, and Mr Satya Narayanan R expressed their thoughts on machine learning in the closure ceremony.

Feedback

  • "We can split AI and ML as a very important course in our curriculum; and this type of workshop is just a start. If we have this type enthusiastic workshop and create similar culture among our other faculties, students, etc., then India will become No.1 in AI & ML very soon."
    Prof. Anil D Sahasrabudhe
    (Chairman, AICTE)

  • "In India, it is a healthy time to absorb the Industry 4.0 phases like AI, ML, Block Chain, Data Science, IoT, etc. AICTE is now stressing upon to spread this information across the country. First, we need to develop the confidence among our teachers in these areas, and then only the knowledge can be transferred. Thus, we are partnering with CL Educate Ltd, who has really helped us train on these subjects."
    Dr M P Poonia
    (Vice-Chairman, AICTE)

  • "AI, ML, and DS are the parts of Industry 4.0. This first batch of ML workshop conducted by AICTE at their HQ is very strong, diverse, and rich. The excitement, excellent inputs of the participants encourage us to take this initiative to different cities, states; train few thousands of faculty members; and accelerate the real-world problem-solving capabilities to them and students on their campuses."
    Satya Narayanan R
    (Founder, CL Educate Ltd)

  • "The AI/ML course participants were very motivated and remained focused on the program throughout both the days. I am very happy that each and every one of them were able to solve the numerous problems we had provided as a part of the course. They scored well in the assessments; and showed high enthusiasm in the class. The unique hands-on design of the program was validated by the excellent response from the teachers."
    Sujit Bhattacharya
(Co-Founder & Chief Innovation Officer, CL Educate Ltd)

  • "The sessions were a good mix of concepts, practical exposure, meaningful discussions, and hands-on problem-solving. Mr. Bhattacharyya was instrumental in making someone like me, who has no background in Machine learning, understand the nuances quite easily. Everyone at the workshop were discussing his ability to use real-life examples while explaining concepts. Such workshops help immensely in absorbing the knowledge on ML; and share it with others"
    Prasenjit Banerjee
    (Product Manager, WAIN Connect)

  • "The workshop on Machine Learning organized by AICTE on February 7–8, 2019 at their HQ was even better than I had imagined. Sujit Bhattacharyya is great as a presenter; and has sound knowledge in Machine Learning. He beautifully explained predictive analytics, using different real-life examples. The hands-on sessions with Python, Pandas, Matplotlib were excellently demonstrated."
    Raja Ram Dutta
(Birla Institute of Technology, Mersa, Off Campus Deoghar, Jharkhand)

  • "Very meticulous in his preparations and articulate in his communication, Sujit sir has the ability to instill confidence and comfort in his students. He is a teacher par excellence!"
    Dr Mala Dutta
(Assistant Professor, Assam Down Town University)

  • "It was a very nice session organized by AICTE and CL Educate Ltd. We learnt a lot. The way Sujit sir and his team described Alexa with a live practical session was awesome. Actual machine learning implementation was discussed in practical terms, which is rarely done in such workshops."
