The Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) was established in 1964, as an autonomous non-profit society at the initiative of Mr. S S Khera, ICS (the then Cabinet Secretary, Government of India) and Dr. D S Reddy (the then Vice Chancellor, Osmania University) with the idea of a research institution that would undertake a systematic and sustained study of issues relevant to the formulation of policies pertaining to Public Sector Enterprises. It is recognized as ‘Centre of Excellence’ in social science research by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in the year 1976.
In the span of five decades, IPE has transitioned from a research and training organization to an internationally regarded educational institution with the launch of a two-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) in the year 1995, recognized as equivalent to MBA by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), to provide future leaders and professional managers. The Institute built a diverse portfolio of long-term programmes as per the industry requirement and introduced two-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Management programs in - Marketing Management (PGDM-MM), Banking, Insurance and Financial Services (PGDMBIF) , International Business (PGDM-IB) and Human Resource Management (PGDM-HRM) which all recognized by AICTE.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) program offered by the Institute of Public Enterprise is a two year program and was launched in 1995. Courses offered at the program elevate the understanding and sharpens the skills of students in the area of decision making, leadership, change management, consumer behavior and entrepreneurial management.
The program is divided into six trimesters. During the first three trimesters spread over the first year, students gain an understanding of the primary functional areas including finance and marketing. In the second year of the program students choose two electives from the areas of Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Operations, Systems and Business Analytics. The program focuses on the development of key skills and capabilities required for a student to become a successful leader of the twenty first century. Over the years the program has attracted students from across the length and breadth of the country.

The rapid growth of the B-School necessitated the construction of a capacious new campus with state-of-the-art infrastructure. Thus came up IPE’s new set of buildings in Shamirpet on the outskirts of Hyderabad. All the modern facilities that enhance learning experience are provided in the new campus. The design of the 21 acre new campus includes hostels to house 600 students, state-of-the-art classrooms with a seating capacity of 70 per class equipped with latest audio-visual, computing and real time data streaming facilities and discussion rooms with a seating capacity of 10-15 with well designed furnishings.
Placements at IPE continue to evolve at a rapid pace every year. More than 90% of the Batch were placed every year in the reputed companies all over India and World. This number stands as a testimony to the meaningful and sincere approach that IPE takes to educate and consequently grow the personality of every student.
