Phew! CAT 2015 is finally over.
Now comes the nerve racking part of waiting for CAT 2015 results. While waiting for the results, most candidates are already guessing and predicting how much should they score in each section to get a certain overall number. There are quite a few tools out there in the market that will help you predict exactly how much you may score in CAT 2015 exam. Meanwhile, all top MBA coaching experts have released their own predictions. With so many theories scattered all over the place, we decided to bring every ‘good attempt’ prediction together under one article.
But before we do that, here are a few things that candidates should remember while calculating their own scores:
1. Negative Marking: CAT 2015 exam deducts 1 (one) mark for every wrong attempt and 3 (three) marks for every right answer. So the overall score is based on both the number of correct or accurate attempts minus the number of incorrect attempts. For example, let’s assume a candidate attempts all 34 questions in VARC section, out of which there are 12 correct answers and 12 incorrect answers. So the candidate’s overall raw score will be 24.
2. Normalisation of Scores : Let’s not forget normalisation process. Each slot has its own share of difficulty questions. Through normalisation, candidates’ scores are “adjusted for location and scale differences of score distributions across different forms and the scaled scores obtained by this process shall be converted into percentiles for purposes of shortlisting.” “CAT 2014 normalisation process is based on GATE scoring, where the normalisation is based on the assumption that distribution of abilities of candidates is the same across all the sessions. The calculations are based on statistic equations,” said Professor Rohit Kapoor, CAT 2014 convenor and IIM Indore Professor while speaking to Shiksha last year. Understand CAT normalisation process. After keeping the above factors in mind, we can now try to predict our percentiles. So how much should you score in each section to cross 99 or 98 percentile? Let’s find out what these experts have predicted.
