RBI Grade B Officers Phase II Exam Analysis July 07, 2017



RBI Grade B Officers (Phase II) Exam – 2017 was conducted on July 7, 2017. The candidates who were shortlisted on the basis of results of Phase-I could appear in this exam. The examination was conducted in two shifts and students were required to appear for both the shifts.

Each question in Paper I and Paper III had five options. An incorrect answer will result in a penalty of ¼ of the marks allotted to the question.

The pattern of the paper was similar to 2016 except the word limit of essay which has been increased to 300 words. Overall the difficulty level was on the lines of last year.

Phase II online examination consisted of three papers as under:

RBI Grade B Phase II Exam Analysis Paper I:

Paper I was divided into 2 sections. Look at the table below:

Section 1 includes passages that were provided to establish the context of the question, though the questions could not be directly answered from the passage. Section 2 questions were straight and quiet factual in nature.

Questions were asked on the following topics:  

  • GDP estimate post demonetization,
  • Reports of various International organizations like Human Development Report and Gender Development Report,
  • Government Schemes like MNREGA,
  • Right to Information,
  • Monetary Policy Committee composition, tenure and eligibility,
  • Budgetary allocation for dairy processing sector etc.

RBI Grade B Phase II Exam Analysis Paper II:

There were only 3 questions in this paper. First question required the candidates to write an essay (40 marks, only 300 words allowed), second question was to write a précis (30 marks, 170 words) and question 3 was reading comprehension (30 marks).

Candidates were NOT allowed to use kind of calculators in Paper III.

Finance Questions

The paper consisted a mix of factual and numerical questions. Questions were asked on the following topics:

  • Numerical on Time Value of Money(TVM),
  • Bonds,
  • Annuity,
  • Financial Ratios(Solvency Ratios),
  • Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC).
  • Capital account convertibility,
  • Derivatives,
  • FRBM panel,  
  • Capital to Risk (Weighted) Assets Ratio (CRAR) etc.

Management Questions

In management, the questions were based on familiar topics but the options were tricky. Questions were asked on the following topics:

  • Management by Objectives(MBO) – Other name for it,
  • Job Analysis,
  • Job Design,
  • Goal Setting Theory,
  • Uday Kotak Committee on Corporate Governance which was set-up recently in the month of June 2017,
  • Types of Non-verbal communication,
  • Management Techniques,
  • Study of Eye Movement – Oculesics as part of non-verbal cues etc.
