The Writing Skills in English Paper has become one of the important papers, especially in the RBI Grade B Phase 2 Exam. It is because students can score even 85+ marks if they write brilliant answers. Also, the score in this paper adds up to determine the final rank making it an extremely important and also very scoring paper.
Essentially, the paper covers three types of questions namely:
Let us look at each of these segments in detail:
The word limit for essay writing is 300-400 words. In order to prepare well for the essay writing section, make sure you read a lot of editorial essays from newspapers like The Hindu, The Economic Times and The Business Standard. Prepare contemporary topics and make small notes of the factual points. Supplement your answers with information from magazines like Yojna and Kurukshetra. Keep revising the essays for retention of the important points.
Follow these steps to answer the Essay writing questions efficiently:
Step 1: Make a rough draft incorporating all the factual information that you can recall about the given topic.
Step 2: Now, make a coherent structure using all the points that should have a clear beginning, in the form of introduction, the middle, or the body of the essays elaborating the topic and an end which includes conclusion and suggestions, if required.
Step 3: Now that you have a structure in place, start writing your essay keeping the word limit in mind. For a good start, you can prepare some quotes from leaders that can strengthen your writing skills and make the essay more reader-friendly.
Step 4: While writing the essay, make sure you do not use too many complex sentences. Write legible, simple, grammatically correct sentences that are easy to understand.
Step 5: Once you’re done writing, proofread your essay once to avoid any errors.
Precis Writing involves summarizing the given information without losing its meaning. So, it will require you to make a clear, crisp summary of the given passage. Unlike essay writing where your goal during preparation is to collect information that can substantiate your answer writing, here you need to practice at least 2-3 precis writing questions each day.
While reading an editorial for the information collection or current affairs analysis, make a crisp summary of it to practice precis writing. Make sure you get it evaluated from your mentor or your peers to assess your writing skills.
It goes without saying that Precis Writing needs a lot of practice to ensure you attempt it well in the paper. Follow these steps while attempting this question in the exam:
Step 1: Carefully read the passage given in the paper in one go to get a gist of what the passage is about.
Step 2: Now, read each paragraph in the passage, make a rough draft and write what each passage is about so that you do not leave out any important point. This will also help you in preparing a structure that involves the sequence of events given in the passage.
Step 3: After you’ve completed the rough draft, start writing your answer. Make sure you read the word limit as it varies from year to year in the RBI Grade B exam.
Step 4: Ensure that you’re writing in your own words. While you can pick up certain jargon or factual information like digit-information viz dates, rupees, etc, do not pick and write the entire statement from the given passage.
Step 5: Proofread your answer well to avoid any grammatical errors or redundancy issues.
In this type of question, a comprehension passage is given based on which, you have to answer the questions given in the paper. You will be required to type the answer via the keyboard. Hence, it is not an objective-type comprehension passage-based questions, rather you will be required to write the answers in your own words. So, make sure you practice these types of questions well beforehand. Of the three types of questions, this is seemingly the easiest one, so you can leverage it and try to score well by ensuring you practice it well.
Follow these steps to efficiently answer comprehension questions for English writing skills paper:

Step 4: You can take inspiration from the passage and frame your answers following the same structure and tonality, but do not copy anything directly from the passage.
