Step 1: Make a rough draft incorporating all the factual information that you can recall about the given topic.

Step 2: Now, make a coherent structure using all the points that should have a clear beginning, in the form of introduction, the middle, or the body of the essays elaborating the topic and an end which includes conclusion and suggestions, if required.

Step 3: Now that you have a structure in place, start writing your essay keeping the word limit in mind. For a good start, you can prepare some quotes from leaders that can strengthen your writing skills and make the essay more reader-friendly.

Unlike essay writing where your goal during preparation is to collect information that can substantiate your answer writing, here you need to practice at least 2-3 precis writing questions each day.

While reading an editorial for the information collection or current affairs analysis, make a crisp summary of it to practice precis writing. Make sure you get it evaluated from your mentor or your peers to assess your writing skills.

How To Answer Precis Writing For English Writing Skills Paper | RBI Grade B Mains Paper

It goes without saying that Precis Writing needs a lot of practice to ensure you attempt it well in the paper. Follow these steps while attempting this question in the exam:

Step 1: Carefully read the passage given in the paper in one go to get a gist of what the passage is about. 

Step 2: Now, read each paragraph in the passage, make a rough draft and write what each passage is about so that you do not leave out any important point. This will also help you in preparing a structure that involves the sequence of events given in the passage.

Step 3: After you’ve completed the rough draft, start writing your answer. Make sure you read the word limit as it varies from year to year in the RBI Grade B exam.

Step 4: Ensure that you’re writing in your own words. While you can pick up certain jargon or factual information like digit-information viz dates, rupees, etc, do not pick and write the entire statement from the given passage.

In this type of question, a comprehension passage is given based on which, you have to answer the questions given in the paper. You will be required to type the answer via the keyboard. Hence, it is not an objective-type comprehension passage-based questions, rather you will be required to write the answers in your own words. So, make sure you practice these types of questions well beforehand. Of the three types of questions, this is seemingly the easiest one, so you can leverage it and try to score well by ensuring you practice it well.

Follow these steps to efficiently answer comprehension questions for English writing skills paper:

Step 1: Carefully read the entire passage to understand the nuances of ideas presented in the passage.

Step 2: Read all the questions in one go and identify where they are answered in the given passage.

Step 3: Next, re-read the paragraph where each question is answered and write the answers in your own words. 

Step 4: You can take inspiration from the passage and frame your answers following the same structure and tonality, but do not copy anything directly from the passage.

Step 5: Proofread the answers once you’ve done writing to avoid any grammatical errors.
