A Master’s in Management from a top global school can define the first decade of your career — the companies that recruit you, the cities you work in, the network you build. Getting in starts with one number: your GMAT score.

We’ve compiled GMAT Focus Edition scores for the top 20 MiM programs globally, ranked by QS Business Master’s Rankings 2026: Management, across the Classes of 2025, 2026, and 2027, along with the score our experts at Career Launcher Study Abroad actually recommend you target.

One thing to keep in mind as you read: MiM programs, unlike MBA, are designed for fresh graduates or early-career candidates with 0–3 years of experience. The GMAT benchmarks are lower than those of top MBA programs, but the applicant pool is no less competitive.

What Is a Good GMAT Focus Edition Score for a Master in Management Program?

The MiM applicant pool differs from the MBA pool in one important way: it skews younger, more academically focused, and is often dominated by candidates from engineering, economics, and commerce undergraduate programs who have invested heavily in test preparation. For Indian applicants specifically, this means the effective competitive bar is higher than the published class average at almost every school on this list.

Here is how to think about score ranges:

  • 655 and above — highly competitive at any program on this list including HEC Paris and INSEAD. Puts you above the class average at every top 20 school.
  • 635–654 — competitive at most programs ranked #3 to #15. May need a strong academic profile to compensate at HEC Paris and LBS.
  • 605–625 — competitive at programs ranked #10 to #20. Below average for the top 5 — other elements of your application need to be particularly strong.
  • Below 605 — competitive mainly at CEMS (minimum threshold), WU Vienna, and Erasmus RSM. Most top European programs will view this as a weak score without a very strong overall profile.

One nuance worth noting: several schools on this list — particularly European programs like HEC Paris, ESSEC, ESCP, and EDHEC — also accept TAGE MAGE (a French management test) and GRE. If GMAT is not your strongest test, these programs genuinely treat all three equally.

Why Targeting Above the Average Matters for MiM Programs

Same as MBA programs, aiming at the class average means half the admitted pool already scored higher.

  • MiM programs weigh academics heavily — since most applicants have little or no work experience, GPA, academic background, and GMAT carry more weight relative to MBA programs, where professional experience balances out a lower score.
  • A strong GMAT compensates for a less prestigious undergraduate institution — for candidates from Tier 2 or Tier 3 colleges in India, a 650+ Focus score is one of the clearest ways to signal academic strength.
  • Scholarships are often tied to GMAT scores — at HEC Paris, ESSEC, and several other top programs, merit scholarships are directly linked to how competitive your score is relative to the class average.

Our recommended scores are set 15–20 points above the class average for exactly these reasons.

School-by-School GMAT Focus Score Breakdown

  1. HEC Paris — Expert Target: 665+ HEC Paris officially states their MiM GMAT Focus average at 645–655 on their FAQ page — equivalent to 700 on the Classic scale. One of the few MiM programs globally that publishes a Focus Edition benchmark directly. The program admits approximately 250 students per cohort from 52 nationalities, with an acceptance rate estimated at around 10%. A 665+ puts you clearly above the stated average at the world’s #1-ranked MiM program.

  2. London Business School — Expert Target: 645+ LBS does not publish an official GMAT average for its MiM, but the competitive range is consistently reported at 680–700 Classic, converting to approximately 625–635 on the Focus scale. The program attracts 330–350 students from 50+ nationalities. A 645+ Focus score positions you competitively at one of the most sought-after MiM programs in the English-speaking world.

  3. ESSEC Business School — Expert Target: 655+ ESSEC does not publish an official GMAT average, but the competitive range is reported at 660–710 Classic, converting to approximately 555–655 Focus. The wide range reflects ESSEC’s holistic admissions approach — a very strong academic profile can compensate for a lower score. A 655+ Focus score gives you the strongest possible GMAT footing at this top French grande école.

  4. CEMS — Expert Target: 605+ CEMS officially states a minimum of 555 GMAT Focus (600 Classic), where GMAT is required by the home institution — published directly on their FAQ page. Since CEMS is a network of 34 partner schools, requirements vary: some schools require GMAT, others don’t. The typical competitive Focus range when submitted is 585–625. A 625+ gives you a comfortable buffer above the minimum and strengthens your application at more selective CEMS partner schools like HEC Paris, LBS, and ESADE.

  5. INSEAD — Expert Target: 665+ INSEAD’s MiM program is less prominent than its MBA but consistently ranked among the top globally. The Classic GMAT competitive range for INSEAD programs sits around 650–710, converting to approximately 605–665 Focus. A high GMAT can strengthen your application—but it won’t compensate for a weak overall profile.

That’s where the right strategy makes the difference.

FAQs

1. What is a good GMAT Focus Edition score for top MiM programs?

A good score depends on the schools you’re targeting. For top programs like HEC Paris and INSEAD, a competitive GMAT Focus score typically starts at 655–665+. For other top 20 MiM programs, scores in the 625–645 range can still be competitive.

2. What GMAT score is required for top MiM colleges in the world?

Most top Master in Management programs have GMAT Focus ranges between 605 and 665. However, to stay competitive—especially as an Indian applicant—you should aim 10–20 points above the average.

3. Is GMAT mandatory for MiM programs?

Not always. Many schools like ESSEC Business School and Esade Business School accept:

  • GMAT
  • GRE
  • Or their own admission tests

However, a strong GMAT score can significantly strengthen your application.

4. Can I get into a top MiM program with a low GMAT score?

Yes, but it’s more difficult. MiM programs place strong emphasis on academics since most applicants have limited work experience. A lower GMAT score needs to be offset by:

  • Strong academic performance
  • Relevant internships
  • Clear career goals

5. How is GMAT for MiM different from MBA requirements?

MiM programs are designed for 0–3 years of experience, so:

  • GMAT score expectations are slightly lower than MBA programs
  • Academic performance carries more weight

However, competition remains intense at top schools.

6. What GMAT score should Indian students target for MiM?

Indian applicants are part of a highly competitive pool. A safe target is:

  • 655+ for top 5 programs
  • 635–645+ for top 10–15 programs

This ensures your score stands out globally.
