Aligarh Muslim University: It is also referred to as AMU, and was established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 1875. The University started as Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College and became a University (AMU) in 1920. The university has been ranked 10 in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2021.
Aligarh Muslim University is an institution of national importance, under the seventh schedule of the Constitution of India. Until 2021, AMU conducted its own entrance test to admit students to various UG programs. From the academic year 2022, admissions to UG programs offered by Aligarh Muslim University will be based on Common University Entrance Test (CUET). CUET will be a common entrance for admissions to UG programs offered by all the Central Universities in the country.
