How to Prepare for IPMAT Quantitative Aptitude 2026

Quantitative Aptitude stops more IPMAT aspirants than any other section — not because it is impossibly hard, but because most students prepare for it the wrong way. They either overestimate the syllabus and panic, or underestimate it and run out of time before the exam.

The reality: QA is one-third of IPMAT Rohtak and JIPMAT, and roughly one-third of IPMAT Indore as well. If you understand exactly what each exam tests, at what difficulty level, and in what format, you can build a targeted preparation plan that gets you above the cutoff without wasting months on the wrong topics.

This guide covers everything you need — a verified overview of all three exam patterns, a section-wise syllabus comparison, high-weightage topics by exam, a step-by-step preparation strategy, expected 2026 cutoffs, and an exam day checklist.

Do You Need Maths in Class XI or XII for IPMAT?

No. Mathematics as a subject in Class XI or XII is not compulsory for IPMAT Indore, IPMAT Rohtak, or JIPMAT. Students from Commerce without Maths, Arts, and Humanities are fully eligible for all three exams.

That said, every IPM exam has a Quantitative Aptitude section that carries significant marks. The difference between the exams lies in how deep the mathematics goes — which the syllabus section below makes clear.

Three observations every student must act on before preparing:

High-Weightage QA Topics by Exam

Not all topics carry equal weight. Spending equal time on every topic is one of the most common preparation mistakes. The lists below identify where to focus based on your target exam.

JIPMAT — Highest Weightage Topics

Strategy to Crack Quantitative Aptitude for IPMAT 2026

Step 1: Build Conceptual Clarity First

No amount of practice solves the problem of a weak conceptual base. If you do not understand why a formula works, you will apply it incorrectly every time a question is framed differently.

For JIPMAT and IPMAT Rohtak, start with NCERT Class 9 and 10 Maths — these cover the entire syllabus for both exams. For IPMAT Indore, extend your preparation to NCERT Class 11 and 12 to cover Limits, Matrices, Co-ordinate Geometry, and Functions.

Work through the concepts for each topic before attempting any timed practice.

Pro-Tip

Step 2: Practice Topic-by-Topic with Timed Tests

Once you have covered a topic, immediately take a timed topic-wise test to confirm your understanding under pressure. Do not move to the next topic until you are consistently accurate on the current one.

For example: Study Number Systems → take a 20-question timed test on Number Systems → review every mistake → only then move to Profit & Loss. This approach isolates weak areas before they compound.

Step 3: Take Sectional Tests Under Exam Conditions

After building topic-level confidence, move to full QA sectional tests. For IPMAT Indore, practice the QA MCQ and QA SA sections separately, each under the 40-minute sectional time limit. For IPMAT Rohtak and JIPMAT, use a self-imposed timer during practice even though no sectional limit exists in the actual exam.

The SA section in IPMAT Indore deserves special attention: there is no negative marking on the 15 SA questions. Attempt every SA question — even educated guesses are worth making.

Step 4: Attempt Full-Length Mock Tests

Full mock tests expose time management gaps that topic and sectional tests will never reveal. Aim for at least one full mock per week in the six weeks before your exam. Simulate real conditions — no breaks, no looking up answers mid-test.

Step 5: Analyse Every Mock Test Thoroughly

Analysis is as important as taking the mock itself. After every test, classify every error: was it a conceptual gap, a calculation mistake, or a time management issue?

Do not start a new mock before you have fully understood every mistake in the previous one.

Step 6: Solve Previous Year Question Papers

Previous year papers are the single most effective tool for final-stage preparation. They show you the exact difficulty level, question style, and topic frequency that the actual exam setter uses. No mock test fully replicates this. Solve at least 5 years of papers under timed conditions before exam day.

Key Takeaways

Cracking IPMAT QA comes down to three things: knowing exactly what your target exam tests, building concepts before attempting questions, and using mocks and previous year papers to close the gap between where you are and where you need to be.

The QA syllabus is not as vast as it looks once you separate what IPMAT Indore tests from what IPMAT Rohtak and JIPMAT test. Map your preparation to your specific exam — and start with the highest-weightage topics first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Start with NCERT Class 9–10 for IPMAT Rohtak and JIPMAT. For IPMAT Indore, extend to NCERT Class 11–12. Follow this sequence: concept study → topic-wise timed tests → sectional tests → full mocks → previous year papers. Algebra and Arithmetic carry the highest weightage across all three exams.

The difficulty depends on your target exam. IPMAT Indore is the most demanding — it tests Class 11–12 topics like Matrices, Limits, and Co-ordinate Geometry. IPMAT Rohtak is moderate. JIPMAT is the most accessible, covering only Class 10-level Maths. None of the three require the depth of JEE Mains.

Yes. Maths in Class XI or XII is not a requirement for any IPM entrance exam. However, a QA section exists in all three exams and carries significant marks, so dedicated preparation for quantitative aptitude is essential regardless of your academic background.

For IPMAT Indore, 5–6 months is recommended due to the Class 11–12 level syllabus. For IPMAT Rohtak and JIPMAT, 3–4 months of focused preparation covering Class 10-level topics is sufficient, provided you practice consistently with mocks and previous year papers.

For IPMAT Indore’s Short Answer (SA) section — yes, attempt every question as there is no negative marking. For MCQ sections across all three exams, be selective: skip questions you are unsure about to avoid the -1 penalty, and return to them if time permits.

Mock tests are critical. They expose time management gaps that topic-level practice cannot. Aim for at least one full-length mock per week in the six weeks before the exam. The post-mock analysis — identifying whether errors are conceptual, calculation-based, or time-related — is as important as the test itself.

Yes — they are among the most effective preparation tools. Previous year papers show the exact difficulty, topic frequency, and question style that the exam setter uses. Candidates who solve at least 5 years of papers under timed conditions consistently outperform those who rely only on mock tests.
