The English Language section of NIACL Assistant Tier-I (Prelims) 2017 comprised of questions based on Reading Comprehension, Error Spotting and Cloze Test. There were 10 questions each based on RC, Cloze Test and Error Spotting. Reading Comprehension was based on the story of a couple who exchange their duties. Synonym-antonym were also asked from RC. Questions based on Cloze Test and Error Spotting were easy to solve. The overall difficulty level of this section was easy to moderate.

The Reasoning section of NIACL Assistant Tier-I (Prelims) 2017 was dominated by questions based on logical reasoning. There were two seating arrangements namely, Linear and Square. Linear seating arrangement was based on people sitting in a row, facing the North and square sitting arrangement had 4 people facing inside and 4 facing outside. Puzzle was based on 7 people and days of the week. Syllogism questions were easy to solve. The overall difficulty level of this section was moderate.
