Shivku's Mantra

  • The only way to mentor people is to listen to their story; and be a clear mirror to their thoughts.
  • Don't overcomplicate your story in the interview by using fancy vocabulary. Stop fooling around; and stick to your point.
  • You don't necessarily have to be witty. Humorless, yet sincere, answers are equally appreciated.

Students Speak!!!

If Shivku were interviewed - "Who is Shivku?"

  • Shivku is someone who likes freedom - of thought and action; whose only pursuit in life is not to be hassled by restrictions and limitations. He has always been a free bird, but along with it comes a little bit of indiscipline and a bit of spontaneity.
  • He goes a lot by his instincts & gut feeling. He will probably not be able to give logic to it, but he knows it's true; and goes ahead with it anyway.
  • He is a good listener. In his early teaching days, he had realized that people share with him what they don't share with others.

Epithets by Students: "To you, Shivku is..."

"The one willing to walk the extra mile"

"Mr 'Know it All'"

"On-the-toes thinker"

"Mr 'Modest'"

Favorite Author

Shashi Tharoor

Reason: Because of his amazing language skill and witty style. His ability to express thoughts, build in the right amount of humor, the right amount of wit, and yet be knowledgeable - that's a unique combination.
Other notable authors: Leon Uris for historical fiction like 'Exodus' and 'The Haj'; Dominique Lapierre for biographical history like 'Freedom at Midnight', and J K Rowling's Harry Potter series for her ability to imagine even the smallest details of a vast magical universe and get inside a kid's mind.

Role Model

Every day, you meet so many great people you want to emulate. I seek wisdom from the experiences different people in my life have given me. My dad, being my earliest role model; one of my first students, Pranav Lal, who is a visually impaired photographer; my friends, who instilled in me the spirit of 'taking things easy'; my school teacher, whose simplicity in teaching I am still trying to emulate; and people like Gopichand, who is much more than a talented sportsman - he is a man of supreme values.
