Significance of Board Marks in CUET Eligibility Criteria

CUET 2024 eligibility criteria might not uphold or emphasize the importance of Board marks, but they will play a crucial role in the final counselling process for UG admission. The CUET scorecard of the students will be the sole criteria for UG admission, but what happens when two or more students with the same CUET score opt for the same course and college? How do the colleges decide, whom to award the seat?

The University of Delhi (DU) has officially announced the criteria for the tiebreaker scenario. The university has announced that in case of a tie between the CUET score of two or more students applying for the same course and college, their Board marks will be considered. Initially the best of 3, and subsequently best of 4 and 5 will be considered. If there remains a tie, then the older student will get the seat. In this way, even the student's age comes into consideration indirectly in the CUET eligibility criteria for DU. Students are therefore advised to give equal focus on their Board preparation along with the CUET 2024 and score well in both exams.

CUET Eligibility Criteria - Reservation policy

CUET is an entrance exam for admissions to Undergraduate courses in 250+ universities including 44+ central universities. Each participating university (central) must follow standard norms of the CUET reservation policy set by the Government of India, concerning intake capacity. Various state, private, and deemed universities will also follow their own set of CUET eligibility criteria - reservation policy, which is mentioned on the respective official university pages. Interested candidates can visit and check the same for their choice of universities.

Following is the CUET reservation policy to be followed by all the central universities:

Category

Reservation

General Economically Weaker Sections (GEN-EWS)

10%

Scheduled Castes (SC)

15%

Scheduled Tribes (ST)

7.5%

Other Backward Classes (Non-creamy layer)

27%

Persons with Disability

5% in each category

To avail of the reservation benefit based on caste (or any other category as specified), a candidate must be able to produce valid documents/certificates to support their claims. The detailed information and proforma for category certificates are mentioned in the official announcement for CUET (UG) 2024.

Candidates have to ensure two important things about the certificate for their CUET eligibility criteria - reservation policy (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD) for CUET 2024:

Candidates are advised to go through the CUET eligibility criteria thoroughly before they fill out the CUET form.

CUET Eligibility Criteria - Age limit

There will be no specific age limit for candidates who wish to fill out the CUET form in 2024. Anyone, who has passed the class 12 Board exam or is appearing in 2024 may apply for CUET 2024. However, candidates must note that they are required to meet the requirements of the particular university to which they are seeking UG admission. Therefore, candidates must visit the official website of the respective university of their choice and check if there are any specific CUET eligibility criteria related to the age limit or not.
