NIRF : an opportunity or a pain ?

 New Delhi, 20 January 2016

Career Launcher organised a roundtable in New Delhi for the Founders, Chancellors and Vice Chancellors of universities. This is the first among a series planned across the country through 2016. Important and relevant issues that affect the quality of educational outcomes and growth of the university will form the theme for the round table.

The Delhi roundtable was moderated by Pramath Sinha (Ashoka University). The participants included Prof. Pushpalata Tripathy (GGSIP), Sanjay Padode (IFIM), Mahesh Sarma (Careers360), Prof. Satyanarayana (BML Munjal), Dr. KJS Anand (IMS), Kunwar Vijendra (Shobhit), Dr. Pankaj Gupta (Apeejay Stya), Vineet Kshirsagar (ex-Microsoft and Oracle), Dr. Shivaraman (Accendere), Manohar (Lloyds) and Dr. Naresh Grover.

The roundtable focused on the National Institutional Ranking Framework elucidating the refinements required within the framework. The challenges identified and shared by the participants regarding the new ranking regime includes data collection on many parameters, conflict of interest, subjectivity, non-coverage of many kinds of universities and so on.The positives, looking into the future, include the shift in focus towards knowledge creation, research, etc. Since rankings are the only one-view decision making points for end users (students and parents), the universities will strive to look good as part of the new regime.
