Master the sections
By focusing initially on building core competencies and mastering key topics, followed by consistent mock practice and revision, you will be ready for each section.
1. Familiarize Yourself with Key Topics
| To Do Task | Quantitative Ability | Verbal Ability | Logical Reasoning |
| Familiarize Yourself with Key Topics + Strengthen Your Basics | Arithmetic: Percentages, Profit & Loss, Time & Work, Averages are foundational topics
Algebra: Linear Equations, Quadratic Equations, Inequalities, and Progressions (AP, GP). Geometry and Mensuration: Areas like Circles, Triangles, Polygons, and Volumes of 3D shapes are essential. Number System (Divisibility Rules, Remainders) and Probability |
Reading Comprehension:
Solve 5 RCs/week from past year papers Maintain a vocab notebook; revise weekly from topics like Synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutions, foreign words Grammar & Usage: |
Solve 2 LR puzzles/day (1 moderate, 1 tricky) Topics will include Series & Patterns, Linear/ circular arrangements, distribution, scheduling, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Data Sufficiency |
Check out our updated IPMAT syllabus 2026 page – covering every section in detail to help you plan and prepare smarter for the exam.
2. Speed building for better Time Management
| To Do Task | Quantitative Ability | Verbal Ability | Logical Reasoning |
| Build Speed | Master Mental Calculations: Memorize squares (1–30), cubes (1–20), fractions & % conversions.
Practice Vedic math tricks (e.g., multiplication, division). |
Skim-Scan-Solve in RC:
Read questions first, then read passages and try answering questions eventually. Pattern Recognition in Grammar: Know common error types: subject-verb, modifiers, prepositions. Timed Reading: 15-minute daily editorial read with key ideas noted in under 3 mins. |
Diagram First, Think Later:
Visual representation saves 30–40% time. In Topics like Binary logic/Seating/Puzzles draw tables/grids. Solve by Elimination: For coding-decoding, series, number puzzles — cancel out impossible options fast. |
3. Targeted Practice
Targeted Practice Approach for each section will include focusing on daily habits, practice types, and executing it effectively.
- Start with daily topic practice. Focus on practicing 1 topic/per day. Be it from quantitative ability, verbal ability or logical reasoning.
- 10 basic questions, 10 moderate ques, 5 challenging questions. Maintain an Error Logbook to record wrong attempts.
- Once into the flow, start practicing mixed sets. On a weekly basis, do 2–3 sets of 15–20 questions from mixed topics. This will develop flexibility and strengthen the understanding of the concepts..
- Along with the two tasks mentioned before, do time drills. For example, 15 questions in 20 minutes. This will not only help in building speed but also the question selection strategy.
- Minimum of 2-3 drills every week.
- Review your errors every week.
Additional Tips: 9-Month Study Plan for IPMAT
- Go through Previous Year Papers: Attempt and analyse the IPMAT previous papers to identify frequently occurring topics and the type of questions. This helps in building a targeted approach owing to the time constraints.
- Use Formula Sheets: Maintain a list of essential formulas and review them daily to keep them fresh in your memory.
- Practice Short Quizzes: To build endurance and familiarity with the exam format, try taking 10-15 minutes quizzes on topics covered each week. Gradually increase the difficulty.
- Track Mistakes and Weak Areas: Keep a log of any questions you struggle with, noting the mistakes or tricky concepts. Use this when you are working on your weak areas.
- Revision is a must: Along with learning new concepts do not forget to revise what you have learned. For quick revision during the end of the preparation journey, practice mixed question sets which will reinforce learning and expose you to question variations.
