In this blog-post, we will try to answer the question: “What is Digital Marketing?” But before we do, here is a challenge for you:

I am confident that you weren’t able to. I can guarantee that most of us can’t. We live in an era where our phones are as dear to us as any other body part. In fact, it feels like one. You can’t function without it. You probably spend a lot of time on social media, and quite frankly, you’re not alone in this.

But why are we talking about this?

Isn’t this blog about Digital Marketing?

Yes it is.

But before we talk about Digital Marketing, let’s discuss what happens in an internet minute in the first place. (I swear it is related)

In one internet minute, 1 million people log into their Facebook, about 41.6 million messages are sent over whatsapp and messenger, about 347,222 people are scrolling through their instagram. The list goes on and on and on…

What this shows is that we spend a lot of time on our social media. This isn’t changing anytime soon. Our lives have become so digitized that marketers cannot even begin to so much as hope to touch base with potential customers without digital marketing. Without digital marketing, it is safe to say that marketing is next to redundant. This is why digital marketing is important. In fact, this is why Digital Marketers are important. But before we dive into the deeper pool of digital marketing and get to the semantics of it, let’s discuss what digital marketing is in the first place:

 

What is Digital Marketing?

We think we know all about Digital Marketing just because we have heard about it a lot. This happens because most of us are under the impression that we know what Digital Marketing is. The problem is: we actually don’t. This confines the scope and opportunity that the knowledge of Digital Marketing can bring. This is why it is important to know what digital marketing actually is so we can use it to the best of our advantage.

This may surprise you, but the term Digital Marketing was coined for the first time in the 1990s. Yes, it has been around for THAT long.
