Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad was established on 11th December 1961. Declared as an autonomous institute through Indian Institutes of Management Act 2017, this prestigious institute has been ranked number 1 according to MHRD-NIRF 2020. It is also the first management institute in India to be awarded EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) accreditation by the EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) in 2008.Unlike the previous years, IIM-A declared the reduction of required minimum CAT sectional cut-off in 2018. For the 2019-2021 Batch, the sectional percentile has gone down to 70 from 80. Likewise, the overall percentile cut-off has also been reduced from 90 percentile to 80 percentiles. According to IIM A final placement report 2020, the highest salary package offered by companies was capped at 70 lakhs per annum.

Admission Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates are required to have a bachelor's degree with a 50% (least) or equivalent CGPA (45% for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD category).
  • Candidates are expected to have appeared CAT with a minimum score percentile for the consideration of admission.
  • The bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification must be of three years minimum after the completion of higher secondary education.
  • If the candidate holds grades/CGPA instead of percentage marks, the equivalence is based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where the bachelor's degree is obtained from. If the certification of the equivalence is unavailable from the desired university, the equivalence is certified by IIM Ahmedabad.
  • Undergraduates in their final year/ awaiting the final results are eligible to apply for admissions. However, candidates are required to present a certificate from the current university/institute's head determining/confirming the same on his or her behalf.
  • Should the candidate get selected for admission, he/she is expected to submit the official confirmation certificate from the current undergraduate university/institute latest by June 30, 2019.
  • Candidates who are offered admission are supposed to submit their mark-sheet and certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination held on or before June 30, 2020 by December 31, 2020.

Admission Criteria

IIM Ahmedabad Admission Criteria consist of two stages- the first stage is the preliminary screening with weightage division between past academic records and CAT exam score (higher weightage to CAT). The second stage consists of Personal Interview (PI) and Writing Test Ability (WAT).

  • The preliminary stage is based on the weightage division of CAT score and academic background.
  • CAT score is given 65% weightage and Academic Profile is given 30% weightage. The remaining 5% weightage is given to work experience.
  • For getting shortlisted, a candidate must hold a minimum CAT sectional percentile score of 70 for all the three sections (individually): Quantitative Aptitude' (QA), ‘Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning' (DILR) and ‘Verbal and Reading Comprehension' (VRC).
  • Candidates must score an overall CAT overall percentile of 80 (minimum).
  • While the weightage division of 65:30 is practiced, candidates with sharp academic records are awarded with higher points during the shortlisting round.
