Admission time in Delhi University is both exciting and confusing for students and their parents. The whole notion of Delhi University, the college life, courses, college and the future prospects is something that many of the applicants are unaware and uncertain of. One thing, however, is certain that the University of Delhi is a premier university of the country that offers as many as 26 BA (hons.) courses and 44 language courses, apart from various Commerce centric courses and B.Sc courses. With a vast number of courses and a huge list of 83 colleges spread over two campuses, the whole experience of the University at first can be daunting. To help students sail smoothly and make the right decisions in this initial stage and to give them a more comprehensive view of the lives and opportunities available at DU, we collaborated with the academic experts at Career Launcher and interviewed several students pursuing various courses at Delhi University.

After having a conversation with the experts at Career Launcher, an institution with 15 years of academic experience, we have come up with certain guidelines for the applicants that will help aspirants plan their careers in the best possible manner.

  • Course > College: Never compromise on the course you want to pursue for a college.
  • Pick a subject that interests you: The subject that you will choose as your major will be the one you will be studying for 3 years and in great depth so make sure it is a subject of your interest.
  • Read: Reading books that relate to a subject of your liking will help you in getting familiar with the discipline and make an informed choice.
  • Plan ahead: To make the most of your college life, planning a path and an ultimate goal is of tremendous help. A favourite among the University students is Civil Services, though Management and several other streams are also open to B.A. B.Com and B.Sc students.
  • Work for it: Once your plan has been ascertained, it's important to work towards it, prepare for competitive exams and be a step ahead.

Cut-offs and admissions:
After the applications are done, the university releases a series of cut off lists. A candidate meeting the cutoff of a particular course in a particular college needs to go and complete the admission formalities and payment of fees before the next list is released as seats are limited. The entire admission schedule is given in the online admission form.

Life at Delhi University:
The whole university is divided into two campuses, North and South; North Campus is home to prestigious colleges like Hindu, St. Stephens SRCC, whereas the south campus is home to LSR, JMC and Sri Venkateshwara, among others. After talking to several DU students about their experience of the university so far, it was seen that the university brings together a variety of cultures from all parts of the country and even abroad. The political atmosphere of the university is also very conducive for those willing to take up politics, with examples of people like Arun Jaitley being former office bearers of the Delhi University Students' Union. There are numerous societies in every college where you can hone your cultural skills, be it music, dance, drama or public speaking and the College fests are one of the most sought after college events all over India.
