IIM Visakhapatnam Admission Process 2026

IIM Visakhapatnam follows a structured three-phase selection process for MBA PGP 2026. The process uses multiple parameters, CAT score, academic record across Class 10, Class 12 and graduation, gender diversity, work experience, and Personal Interview performance, to arrive at a final composite score for each candidate.

Phase 1 - Initial Shortlisting Based on CAT 2025

All eligible candidates who selected IIM Visakhapatnam as a preference in their CAT 2025 registration form and meet the minimum section-wise and aggregate percentile requirements are shortlisted in Phase 1. Only those who submit the complete application, including all required documents, by the stipulated deadline proceed to Phase 2.

The following table presents the minimum CAT 2025 percentile requirements (section-wise and overall) for Phase 1 shortlisting across all candidate categories.

Phase 2 - Profile-Based Shortlisting for Personal Interview

All Phase 1 shortlisted candidates who submitted the detailed online application (called Qualified Confirmed Candidates) are evaluated in Phase 2. The institute standardizes 10th and 12th board scores relative to the 90th percentile of the respective boards. Bachelor's degree scores are adjusted within respective streams.

The table below shows the six evaluation components and their respective weights used by IIM Visakhapatnam to prepare the Phase 2 shortlist rank list.

Within the 50 CAT points, the distribution is: VARC - 18 points, DILR - 14 points, and QA - 18 points. Work experience is calculated on a sliding scale that rewards 24-36 months of post-graduation experience the most (maximum score of 10).

Phase 3 - Personal Interview and Final Offers

Candidates shortlisted for the Personal Interview (PI) in Phase 2 who submit the interview consent form proceed to Phase 3. An important provision applies here: candidates shortlisted for PI by IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Lucknow, or IIM Indore are not required to attend a separate PI at IIM Visakhapatnam. However, if shortlisted by multiple of these IIMs, the candidate must attend at least one PI among them; failing to do so results in being marked absent for IIMV admissions.

The final composite score for all Phase 3 candidates is computed using the following weights:

Frequently Asked Questions

The admission process follows three phases. Phase 1 uses only CAT 2025 scores for initial shortlisting. Phase 2 builds a composite pre-PI score using CAT, 10th, 12th, graduation, diversity, and work experience (weighted out of 100). Phase 3 conducts Personal Interviews, and the final score weights PI at 48 points, CAT at 25 points, and other components for the remaining 27 points.

Candidates shortlisted for PI by IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Lucknow, or IIM Indore (for their PGP/PGPM programs) do not need to attend a separate PI at IIMV. The average of their PI scores from those IIMs is used. Candidates not shortlisted by any of these IIMs must attend a dedicated PI conducted by IIM Visakhapatnam.

Full-time paid post-graduation work experience is awarded a score on a sliding scale. Experience of 12-24 months earns a proportional score reaching up to 10; experience of 24-36 months earns the full 10 points. Above 36 months, the score decreases, and experience beyond 48 months receives 2.5 points. Only full-time paid work after bachelor's graduation is counted.

Admission offers for PGP 2026 are expected to be released on May 15, 2026 (tentative). Program registration is scheduled for June 22, 2026. All key dates are tentative and subject to change.

IIM Visakhapatnam provides information on financial aid and scholarships on its official website under the PGP Admissions section. Education loans are facilitated through partner banks. Candidates are encouraged to check the IIMV official website for latest details.
