The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad, was founded in 1958 as the Central Institute of English (CIE). In 1973, it was granted deemed university status, and two new campuses were established in Shillong (1973) and Lucknow (1979). In 2006–2007, it was elevated to Central University status by an Act of Parliament (No. 7 of 2007) and renamed The English and Foreign Languages University. EFLU is the only university of its kind dedicated exclusively to English and foreign languages in South Asia.
EFLU UG admission 2026 will be entirely based on CUET 2026 (UG) scores. All 14 BA (Honours or Honours with Research) programs across three campuses - Hyderabad, Shillong, and Lucknow - will admit students solely through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) conducted by NTA. There is no separate university entrance test for EFLU UG admissions. All programs follow the 4-year FYUP framework under NEP 2020, with built-in multiple entry and exit points.
EFLU has 7 Schools and 26 Departments, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, research, diploma, and distance education programs. Follow this guide to briefly learn about the UG admission process at English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), the complete program list, eligibility, fees, and other crucial details.
EFLU is NAAC accredited with an 'A' grade and is recognised by the UGC and NCTE. The University's NIRF 2023 rank places it in the 151–200 band in the University category. EFLU is ranked 21st by the Outlook India Ranking 2024 in the Top General (Govt.) Universities category.

Note: IMPORTANT: Candidates must select both the program and the campus (Hyderabad, Shillong, or Lucknow) at the time of applying on the EFLU CSAS portal. Admission is campus-specific; a seat in one campus does not entitle the candidate to the same program at another campus. Intake figures are as per the EFLU UG Handbook 2025-26 and are subject to revision.
All EFLU UG admissions are based entirely on CUET UG 2026 scores. There is no additional language proficiency test or written test at the university level for UG admission. Candidates must select the correct CUET subjects as specified by EFLU to be eligible for shortlisting.
As per EFLU's CUET subject mapping, candidates must appear for the English (Language) paper and the General Test paper. Additionally, for programs in specific foreign languages or humanities streams, candidates may need to appear for the relevant domain subject. Candidates are strongly advised to check the latest CUET UG Information Bulletin at cuet.nta.nic.in and EFLU's official notification for the exact CUET subject combination required for each program, as these may be updated by NTA.

Key rule: The issue of a CUET Hall Ticket and appearance at the entrance test does not automatically make a candidate eligible for admission. EFLU reserves the right to cancel the admission of any candidate at any stage if eligibility requirements are not fulfilled.
