CUET 2026 Overview
UG admission based on the class 12 Board score is a thing of the past. Considering the undue advantages that the students from a few Boards got (Unequal strictness of questions & paper format and different assessment levels) over other Board students, UGC and MoE, in a joint initiative, introduced CUET in 2022.
Since then, it has been the sole criteria for UG admissions. In 2022, only 89 universities participated in CUET (UG) and granted admission to students in various undergraduate courses based on their CUET scores. The number rose to 250+ in 2024. In CUET 2026, more than 300 universities are expected to participate. This will include 45+ central universities like DU, BHU, JNU, JMI, AMU, etc.
Like every year, CUET 2026 will be conducted once a year. (Which will be tentatively in May 2026)
CUET is conducted for UG and PG separately. Here, we have only discussed CUET UG.
CUET 2026 syllabus will cover the entire NCERT class 12 syllabus for respective subjects.
The difficulty of any entrance exam is based on the preparation level of the students. If a student starts early, then the exam is manageable.

CUET syllabus is a broad spectrum of chapters and topics from respective subjects on which questions are asked in CUET UG. Based on the answers marked by the students, they are assessed and awarded marks and percentile, which are further used for UG admission to the participating universities.
Since its inception, the syllabus has not been changed by NTA. So, the CUET 2026 syllabus is expected to be the same as the present syllabus. It covers the entire class 12 NCERT syllabus for respective subjects.
Note: Students must know the differences between their specific Boards class 12 syllabus and the CUET 2026 syllabus. This will help them navigate through all the chapters/topics and cover them effectively from both assessment perspectives.

CUET 2026 SyllabusCUET 2026 Exam Pattern
Awareness of the CUET 2026 exam pattern is crucial for students wishing to kickstart their CUET 2026 preparation early. Exam pattern is the set of rules and guidelines on which the CUET question papers are based. It includes the number and types of questions, the maximum and minimum number of questions to be marked, the options available, the marking scheme, etc.
Tentative CUET 2026 exam pattern:
- The paper will be divided into three sections.
Section I (A & B): Languages - Total 33
Section II: Domain Subjects - Total 29
Section III: General Test - GT - For Languages (section I) & Domain subjects (section II), there will be 50 questions, out of which students must mark 40.
- For General Test - GT (section III), there will be 60 questions, out of which students must mark 50.
- The time duration for each paper: For General Test, Accountancy, Economics, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics (Applied & Core), and Chemistry, students will have 60 minutes for each. For the rest of the papers, students will get 45 minutes each.

Some significant changes were made in the exam pattern in 2024. There are no updates regarding changes in the CUET 2026 exam pattern, which is expected to remain the same.
CUET 2026 Eligibility
Students must fulfill basic eligibility criteria to qualify for CUET registration. These criteria are laid out by the NTA & UGC to ensure a certain standard among the test takers. The CUET 2026 eligibility criteria include the following:
- Students must have passed or are appearing in the current year for their class XII Boards
- They must do it from any recognized Board
- Students must score a minimum of 45% marks on their Boards A relaxation of 5% will be provided to the category students.
- A student must be an Indian national. Foreign nationals of NRI & OCI categories may also apply.

CUET (UG) is conducted by the NTA on a yearly basis. Every year, the tentative CUET (UG) timeline remains the same. The CUET 2026 registrations are expected to begin by the end of February 2026. Once the registration portal is opened, it remains open for at least a month. Tentatively, students can do CUET 2026 registration and fill out the form till the last week of March 2026.
