The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay also known as IITB or IIT Bombay is located in Bombay in Powai region. Being established in the year 1958, it is the second-oldest, after Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Currently IIT Bombay has a total of 14 academic departments, six centers, one school, and three interdisciplinary programs.

Over the last 53 years, around 39,000 engineers and scientists have graduated from the institute. During all these years, IIT Bombay has created a niche for all its flagship courses, making it the dream college for most of the engineering aspirants.

Getting into IIT Bombay- Admission

For all B.Tech programs- JEE Advanced

All the IIT aspirants have to sit for JEE Main and afterwards, JEE Advanced. Only the top 150,000 scores in JEE Main will become eligible to sit for JEE advanced.


IIT Bombay Eligibility

JEE eligibility criteria apply to all the IITs for admissions to their undergraduate programs. Based upon their score and rank in the JEE Advanced exam, shortlisted candidates are called for counseling.


Eligibility criteria for JEE is as follows:

  •   Students who are born on or after October 1, 1992 are eligible to apply. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) have been given a relaxation of 5 years.
  •   Aspiring candidates should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2016 or 2017.
  •   The candidates must have secured at least 75% marks or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th Class Examination conducted by respective boards. For SC/ST students, there shall be a relaxation of 5% in this criterion.
  •   Aadhar card is mandatory for all the Indian citizens who are taking JEE.

IIT Bombay admission procedure

B.Tech admission at IIT Bombay is done through online counseling. Counseling organized by the college is held for those candidates who are shortlisted through the screening process on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate in JEE. After the allotment of seat candidates need to submit the requisite fee and required documents for verification.
